Merrick's Doggupy

Zeus #reviewing #merrick #foodrevolution #bowtothebowl #happydog #dogfood #dogstagram #dogsofinstagram #instadog #petstagram #review #mutt #bigdog #deckDid you read our initial Merrick Revolution review?  What about our follow-up post, broadcasting the canine leader's message to your pack?  Today, the Lapdogs are once again assisting in the Revolution, as they bring you news about Doggupy

What: Doggupy is an organized protest in New York City uniting dogs and their owners in the cause to bring dogs everywhere better food. Dog lovers (with or without their furry friends) can join the pet food revolution by signing a pawtition to raise donations of wholesome food for local shelter dogs through the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals. Attendees will rally, learn about nutrition for their pet, receive free samples and take pictures while "liberating the bowl." The event in Union Square is just the beginning of the movement.
If you're like us and don't live in NYC, you can also sign a pawtition on Facebook to help Merrick donate real, wholesome food to dogs in need.

When: Tuesday, October 2 ~ 11:30 am - 3:30 pm
*This space is Doggupied — arrive between 11:30 am- 12:30 pm and enter to win a year's supply of food. Ten prizes will be awarded.

Where: Union Square, New York City – NW Corner (Union Square W and E 17th Street)

Why: United we sit. Together we stay. Because dogs deserve real food and should eat what people eat, for those that join the revolution by attending Doggupy — furry or not — Merrick Pet Care will donate food to local shelter animals in partnership with the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals.

Who: Merrick Pet Care Inc., a leader in the super-premium pet food category, is declaring a pet food revolution — a revolution in a dog bowl — with its announcement of a new line of dog food entrees that brings pet food to an entirely new level. With a mission to create the most nutritious and wholesome food it can to help families take better care of their pets. Made in the USA with only the freshest, locally grown ingredients, the entrees provide balanced nutrition, with health you can see in your dog’s bowl, and more importantly, in your dog.

REVIEW: Pop's Pet Organics

Pop's Pet Organics

Where to Find: Pop's Pet Products

Pops
The Pop's Promise
truly healthy, highest quality, smart, reliable,
planet friendly products for your beloved pet

We were recently given the opportunity to review a couple of items from the Pop's Pet Organics line; Insect Away Pet Shampoo and Flea, Tick & Insect Repellent For DogsMade in the USA, all of the Pop's products are organic, natural and eco-concious - made with the both the health of animals and the earth in mind.  Of course we jumped at the chance to review them!

The Insect Away Pet Shampoo is 100% natural, made with certified organic oils and naturally extracted botanicals.  Safe to use on all dogs and cats over 8 weeks of age, it helps to repel fleas, ticks and other insects.  But, not only does it repel pests, it helps to achieve healthy skin and a conditioned coat.... and it smells fantastic! Ingredients: saponified organic coconut, olive and jojoba oils, natural essential oil blend including naturally extracted lemongrass, neem and catnip, organic aloe vera, and naturally extracted rosemary as a natural preservative.

The Flea, Tick & Insect Repellent For Dogs is 100% organic and DEET free, which I love!  Yes, you really can use plant based oils to get powerful protection for your dog.  There are no harsh chemicals or nasty side effects with Pop's.  The spray is safe for all dogs over 8 weeks of age, gentle on the skin, highly effective and environmentally safe. The active ingredients are a mix of essential oils - lemongrass, geranium, peppermint, clove, cedar, rosemary and thyme - which combine for a pleasant scent, unlike many other insect repellents on the market.

I have used both the shampoo and repellent on the Lapdogs in the past week and am very pleased with the results.  The humans give Pop's 2 thumbs up and truly think they are one  amazing company!  Not only do they strive to make purchasing their products are easy and affordable as possible, Pop's believes in giving back.  They support animal welfare organizations with a percentage of their profits, as well as donations of products and volunteering their time.  Pop's is proud to have created a chain of integrity, from using environmentally dedicated farmers, to using ingredients that reflect the wisdom of nature, to factories that practice responsible manufacturing.  The result is safe and healthful products for our pets!

Pizza, Pizza!

Today's Ten on Tuesday topic is: 10 Favorite Pizza Toppings.  Pizza is one of my favorite foods, so this one will be fun!

1. Hamburger.  This is my most favorite, but not meatball... just plain 'ole hamburger please.

2. Pepperoni & Mushroom.  Great combo!

3. Hawaiian.  That would be chunks of ham & pineapple.

4. Fresh mozzarella, tomato & basil.  A true classic.

5. Roasted garlic.  mmmm... it's a great one to pair with either chicken or fresh tomato.  One of our local pizza places makes a fabulous pizza with fresh tomato slices & garlic.  So simple, so good.

#blt #pizza OMG this is amazing! #moatmountain #whitemountains #newhampshire #food #sodelicious #yumo
BLT Pizza, Moat Mountain
6. BLT.  I've only had this once, at Moat Mountain Smoke House & Brewing Co. in North Conway, NH and it was freaking fantastic.... yum-o.... amazing!  I really need to try making it at home.

7. Linguica.  This was my Dad's favorite, so I grew up on it.  I prefer it ground.

8. Bacon.  What doesn't taste better with bacon?

9. Shaved steak.  As in a philly cheese steak pizza.

10. Peppers & Onions.  Another classic, but tasty combo.

Lazy Monday Mischief

There's not a lot of mischief going on in the Lapdog household right now, so we have a rather boring post today.  The Lapdogs were happy to have Mom & Dad home all day yesterday, for a rather lazy fall Sunday.  We watched the NASCAR race at NHMS (it was the first time the humans weren't there for it in probably 15 years... kinda weird, but I wasn't complaining after being there all day Saturday) and football.  Hope everyone else had a nice Sunday!

Oh The Shame!

Have you seen the dog shaming craze going across social media lately?  Well, thanks to Kol's Notes and My Brown Newfies, the pooches are turning the tables on the humans today!

Before we proceed, Zeus, the eldest Lapdog, insisted I let you know that our children let us get off easy and only shamed us on one single thing.  Of course, it's a big thing that happens pretty much every. single. weekend... from April through October.

MattNic_shaming_91512

MattNic_shaming_91512b

MattNic_shaming_91512d

I shame myself for forgetting to make our sign at home before we headed to the track last weekend.  If I had, you know it would have been much prettier... and bigger.  As you can see, we tried a few poses to get both the way too small sign and car in.  Our pawesome photographer suggested we take a close up on the sign... boy is she smart!

MN_shamingSign_91512

Edited: I should have clarified, the humans are not gone all weekend, just 1 day per weekend.  Sometimes Saturday, sometimes Sunday. ;)

So, in honor of the unconditional love they give us, won't you allow your pups to shame you a little today?  Join us...

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Cape Clogs

Cape Clogs Wooly

Where to Find: Cape Clogs

Clogs_Lola_82512b Clogs

Okay ladies, who doesn't love new shoes?  With my favorite season (aka fall) quickly approaching, I jumped at the chance to review a pair of Cape Clogs.  After all, what doesn't look cuter with a pair of jeans and long sleeve tee than a great pair of clogs?  I chose the Wooly style, in the brand new Midnight color/pattern.

Clogs3
Based out of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Cape Clogs is a leading designer and distributor of fashion forward Swedish clogs that exude personality and youthful energy thru vivid signature prints. Cape Clogs are handmade; therefore no two pairs are exactly alike.  They are actually made in the same manner as they were back in the 70's! The soles are made of alderwood, a hard but fragile material, then the rubber soles are glued onto them.  I think this combination of handmade construction and the type of materials used makes for a lovely, rustic look. Due to those same reasons, Cape Clogs provides care instructions and tips on their web site (see about us, then clog construction & instructions) that you should be aware of before making a purchase.  With proper care, Cape Clogs can last you a lifetime!

As you will see when you visit their site, there are many styles and prints of Cape Clogs available!  After pondering over a few styles, I went with Wooly because I loved the cozy look of the wool fiber upper.  Of course, then I still had to ponder which color/pattern to choose.  I settled on Midnight, a navy colored wool with tan/brown leafy pattern, because I thought they would be a perfect addition to my fall/winter wardrobe.... and boy was I right!  These look absolutely fabulous with jeans!

Clogs2As mentioned above, I love pairing a great pair of clogs with my jeans in the fall and on non-snowy winter days.  This was my first exposure to Cape Clogs and although I haven't had too many opportunities to wear them yet, I adore them. There's something extra special about that handmade, rustic style.  The one thing I noticed when I first put them on was they seemed a little tight across the top of my foot.  I was told they would loosen up with wear, and that they have!

So, are you a clog lover at heart or still not sure you're sold on the style?  Check out these fun reasons why you should wear clogs...

The Top 15 Reasons to Wear Clogs by Cape Clogs

1. Clogs make you stand up straight.
2. Clogs give you lower-back support.
3. Clogs align your spine.
4. The wood soles are orthopedically designed to fit the shape of your feet.
5. Clogs work just like the Dr. Scholl's sandals that were so popular with women in the 70's and 80's.
6. The clog's wooden sole is so strong your weight won't compress it like a regular shoe's sole.
7. Clogs are open in the back so your feet breathe.
8. Clogs fit loosely so your feet don't feel scrunched up all day.
9. You'll never have to tie your shoes again.
10. Since wood is an insulator, your feet stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
11. You will make new friends and meet total strangers cause whenever you wear clogs somebody will ask you about them.
12. Clogs are cool!
13. Our clogs are among the finest, high-quality clogs in the world.
14. There's nothing cuter than a little kid wearing clogs.
15. And last, but not least, clogs make you two inches taller!  (Oh how I adore this one!)

Check out Cape Clogs today for yourself or someone on your holiday gift list.  And guess what?  Now I get to give away a pair to one lucky reader...

Everybody's Working for the Weekend

Today's Ten on Tuesday topic is: 10 Things You Love to Do on the Weekend
Keep in mind that spending time with the man and our 4 fur-children are a given, and my list somewhat goes along with the fall season...

Enjoying #apple #cider and #ciderdonuts with the family at #sunnycrest #farm #newhampshire #appleorchard #farmstand #fall1. Visit apple orchards, farms, fairs, etc.

2. Spend some quality time with my knitting, or doing something else crafty.

3. Watch football.  Go Pats!

4. Hang out with our wonderful NELCAR family...  translation: go racing!

5. Take the dogs for a ride.  Trips to their favorite pet supply store or to the dog park to meet up with one of our former foster babies for a play date are always fun!

6. Enjoy a real breakfast (not just a yogurt or bagel), either at home or out... and a few leisurely cups of coffee!

7. Relax and catch up with TV shows on the DVR, a good book or magazine.

Untitled
8. Take a cue from the dogs and enjoy an afternoon nap every now and then.

9. Visit with the family...

10. Take a drive and end up where we may... perhaps some outlet shopping or the zoo, lunch at a new spot or ice cream from our favorite farm.  Day trips are the best!

REVIEW: Spring Naturals Dog Treats

Spring Naturals Turkey Treats

Where to Find: Spring Naturals

SpringTreats Spring_Lola_912

"At Spring Naturals, we believe that dogs and cats deserve the most
nutritionally and functionally balanced foods and treats."

SpringTreats2
The Lapdogs' tails are always wagging when it comes time to review new treats and there was no exception to that rule when a bag of Spring Naturals Turkey Treats showed up at our door!

Spring Naturals are made with real meat, whole vegetables, whole fruits and whole grains.  They contain no wheat, gluten, corn, soy or by-products, nor any artificial preservatives, flavors or coloring.  Made in the USA, Spring Naturals are truly wholesome goodness that both you and your dog will love.

Spring_Tut_912 Spring_Sophie_912

Spring Naturals baked treats are currently available in both wholesome grain and grain-free options and in four flavors; Beef, Chicken & Lamb, Turkey & Salmon and the one we received for review, Turkey.  The first thing I did was read the ingredients listed on the package: turkey, apples, molasses, natural flavor, chickpeas, salt, spinach, quinoa, oats, blueberries, cranberries, flaxseed, rosemary extract, apricots, dandelion greens, calcium propionate, zinc propionate.  My first thought was "yum... sounds delish, are these really for the dogs?"  Then I opened the package and was pleasantly surprised to find such an appetizing odor.  Unlike many other meat based treats, Spring Naturals Turkey Treats have a very pleasant, almost fruity smell to them.

Spring_Lola_912b Spring_Zeus_912b

The Lapdogs seemed to agree with Mama... they sat, drooled and did tricks for Spring Naturals!  Even my finicky eater Zeus gobbled one up right away... there was no sniffing or investigating before hand, which is when I know treats must smell as delish to him as they do me!

Spring_Zeus_912cSpring Naturals also makes a line of dry and canned dog foods, which, like their treats, are available in wholesome grain and grain-free options.  Additionally, organic options are also available.

Spring Naturals Turkey Treats have received the official 16 Paws Up Lapdog Seal of Approval!  Grab some for your pack today -- Zeus promises they won't be disappointed!

Disclosure: Lapdog Creations received the Spring Naturals treats free of charge for review. I was not compensated for this review and all opinions expressed are my own..
