#ShopWithYourHeart and You Decide How They Live #ASPCA

Do you purchase meat, eggs or dairy products? If you answered yes, you just might have more power than you know!

Shop With Your Heart ASPCA

Did You Know?

Most of the nearly 9 billion animals raised for meat, milk and eggs in the US are suffering in inhumane factory farms.

Animals are not the only ones affected, as factory farms impact human health. They can be breeding grounds for dangerous pathogens, and the antibiotics used to prevent disease create the potential for dangerous, drug-resistant bacteria to develop.

To fully harness the power of our collective purchases and demand better lives for farm animals, the ASPCA has launched the Shop With Your Heart initiative giving consumers the resources to recognize, locate and demand meaningfully welfare-certified meat, eggs and dairy products, as well as plant-based alternatives.

When you chose to buy welfare-certified animal products, you send a strong message to food companies that you care about the treatment of farm animals.

More than 9 billion animals are raised for food each year

How Can You Help?

Take the Pledge to #ShopWithYourHeart - when you do, you will gain access to an exclusive Shop With Your Heart Grocery List

Let your friends know you believe in a more humane world for farm animals by posting a photo of yourself making the "heart hands" on social media with the hashtag #ShopWithYourHeart

Find a Certified Farm in your state - many allow customers to buy directly from them

Ask your local supermarket to carry more welfare-certified animal products and/or plant-based meat, egg and dairy alternatives.

When you find welfare-certified or plant-based products near you, tag the store or restaurant on social media - don't forget to hashtag it #ShopWithYourHeart

Educate Yourself - confused about the difference between free-range, cage-free, all nautral, etc.? You're not alone. The ASPCA has put together a Meat, Eggs and Diary Label Guide to help us all understand the terms.

Will you join me in taking the pledge to #ShopWithYourHeart today?

  1. I love this post! I'm taking the pledge. I'm a "flexitarian", but I only buy certified humane eggs and when I can find it chicken.

  8. Great information! I find myself shopping more and more at the local Farmer's Market and I know that some of them have meat too. I'll check the list and see who is on it for the next time I go shopping there.

  15. What a wonderful campaign - I remember reading a book written by Temple Grandin about treating these animals humanely and her TED talk was inspiring. I didn't know about this ASPCA campaign so appreciate your post and letting folks (like me) know!

  16. The SPCA here in BC does this and I definitely try to buy certified products whenever I can/ I think it's such a great option for those of us who won't be going vegetarian any time soon.

  17. What a great post and an awesome resource! It bothers me that many farm animals are kept in inhumane conditions, but before this I've never thought I could have a say in that or even figure out how to tell where the food comes from. Thanks for this, I am SO sharing!
