I even found the Zeus of Highlanders... I think this guy would've posed for me all day long!
So, spinning fibery friends... what do you think about spinning Highlander? After all, we have Buffalo and Yak yarn. I wonder if anyone at Miles Smith Farm has thought about getting their babies hair spun? Oh and if you're wondering about my post title, read this.
To update you on the adorable furballs I posted yesterday... it sounds like Rondo is about to be adopted, but Java is still looking for his forever home! The farm will have a couple more rescue babies stopping by soon. As for the cattle, they are expecting twenty calves between now and the end of May (yes, the camera and I will be visiting for sure)!
They sure are funny with their shaggy hair. There's a cattle farm here that has them, too; maybe I should get off my lazy duff and go visit. Or maybe I should just inquire about a side of beef....so they can afford to keep those lovely creatures around!

ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful but I have to admit, I don't know anything about their wool. What is it like? Is it comparable to Yak? I will have to do some research and check it out.

I believe any fiber can be spun. Fine or corse, soft or scratchy, they can all be spun.

They ARE kinda' cute. I thought I'd seen most of what there is to see in the bovine world, but I hadn't seen those.
ReplyDeleteAwwww...love them! I don't see why they couldn't be spun, people spin with dog hair (says the person who is trying to learn to spin and has a big bag of "puppycoat" hiding in the clost). :-) The trick would be harvesting the hair...you can call a sheep shearer, but I don't think you can call a cattle clipper.
