Are you looking to surprise a special pet parent this year, but not quite sure what to get for them? Think outside the box (and catalog) and get them something completely custom...
Disclosure: Pawtraitz sent a custom painting to Lapdog Creations, free of charge, for review purposes. We only share information that we feel is relevant to our readers, and all opinions expressed are our own.
A custom pet portrait makes the perfect holiday (or really, any day gift for any pet parent. I recently received a gorgeous one of Teutul from Pawtraitz, and couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
Pawtraitz, based out of Charlotte, NC, specializes in custom paintings and drawings of all types of pets, including dogs, cats, horses, birds, rabbits and fish. And because everyone has different tastes, they offer a variety of portrait sizes on both paper and canvas.
Working with Elizabeth at Pawtraitz to create Teutul's portrait couldn't have been more simple. All I had to do was email her a favorite photo of Tut and she began to work her creative magic shortly after. I chose a favorite snow shot of my boy from 2008.
First, she sketches a pencil outline of your pet based on the photograph you sent. She can even incorporate multiple pets into one painting from separate photos if you'd like.
Once the pencil sketch is complete, Elizabeth begins to fill in the colors with the medium of your choice (watercolor, acrylic, pencil, etc.) and your portrait really begins to come to life.
I received a proof at this stage of the creative process to see if there was anything I'd like to change. Due to the coloring of the photo I sent, she originally had some reddish-brown coloring around Tut's eyes that was not true to his coloring. I immediately sent over another photo of my boy, giving her a better example of his coloring, and she fixed it in a jiffy!
Once you approve the "proof," Elizabeth fills in the background with your choice of color and adds the finishing outlines. I went with green, which is the color of Tut's collar.
The finished 6" x 6" acrylic on canvas portrait turned out amazing... absolutely gorgeous, if I do say so myself! I really love that she uses a thicker than usual wood frame (at least compared to the other two small canvas paintings I have), which allows the painting to wrap around all four sides. The thickness just gives the finished product a little extra dimension.
Elizabeth did a fabulous job with Teutul and I know she can do the same for your beloved pets! Or, your friend's pets... remember, custom pet portraits make fabulous one-of-a-kind gifts that your recipient will treasure for many years to come.

That is a beautiful portrait! I think everyone should have a special portrait of their pets!
Absolutely beautiful! After our dog Pip passed away, a friend and fellow blogger painted a portrait of him. I treasure it so much!
My husband is from Charlotte, so naturally, we are in and out of the city all the time. It would be cool to have the artist meet Gremlin in person but if she did she paint him as some horrible rabid devil dog hahaha (he's not good with anyone new). Very cool paintings
That is such a beautiful potrait of Tut it captures the spirit in those eyes so well
