We're Cool - Are You?

We posted about My Dog Is Cool last year and were sadly just reminded of how much we need to continue spreading the word.  Our local news is reporting two dogs died during this heat wave after being left in the car by their owner.   My first reaction is extreme anger and wishing for "an eye for an eye" - someone lock up that owner in the same hot car please.  My second reaction is extreme sadness... can you even imagine what a painful death that was for those babies?  It is terrible when people continue to not surprise me by their ignorance and stupidity.  Very sad...

I've been driving around with a stash of these flyers in my glove box for over a year, and I'm not afraid to leave one when necessary.  I've been known to go into stores to have owners paged, and to call the police when that doesn't work.  Fortunately, those are the only steps I've been forced to take thus far... but I always have my eyes and ears open for furbabies in trouble this time of year.

Please... continue to spread the word and keep furbabies safe during the summer.

Passing Through

Happy Friday... would you please excuse me as I pass through today?  This is our third day of my personal hell well over 90 degree temps, which means we're officially having a heat wave... or so I'm told by the newscasters.  I. Do. Not. Do. This. Insane. Heat.  Not one bit... ugh.  The Lapdogs don't do it either.  You know it's too hot when they don't even want to hang out on the back porch (can't blame 'em, I burned my feet just running out there to get something).

So we're being lazy sitting inside, huddled in front of fans.  We don't have the ACs in the window and have been suffering through, since those same newscasters promise me I'm going to love the weather next week (70's... woot!).  I've made coffee for iced coffee and have a batch of sun tea brewing on the deck with some of the awesome pineapple sage from my container garden.  That plant is growing like a weed - and smells amazing! - so if you're local and need a clipping, let me know!  I kept reading it makes great tea, so hopefully this turns out tasty. It's already a gazillion times darker than when I took this picture.

We had a little visitor today... anyone know what this cute little green guy is?

Untitled Untitled

I tried to look him up on line and came to the conclusion that's he probably either a June beetle or a stink bug.  I would prefer the first option, but a few people seem to think he's stinky.  I've never had to deal with stink bugs before... please, no.

I don't have much for Fiber Arts Friday today.  We're now traveling to races twice a week and my knitting travels right along with me each and every time, but hasn't seen much action lately.  I need to change that... I have a baby blanket that needs to be finished before the little one arrives in a couple of weeks!

Speaking of racing, it was a rough night at the track last night.  I was a little upset when Matt and another car got together, checking up to avoid a couple of cars spinning in front the them.  We broke another oil cooler (on to #3 this season... I joked we should look into getting a case discount, then realized that's not very funny) and tore up the front bumper and grill.  Not too long after that, there was a major pile up on the white flag lap which took out half the field and resulted in thousands of dollars worth of damage.  At least 2 are totaled, 3 or 4 will need new front clips and we're not sure about the others who wouldn't know the extent of their damage until they started repairs.  If Matt was still in the race, there's a better than good chance he would've gotten caught up in that and we wouldn't be able to make minor repairs and be at the track this weekend.  These pics were pre-race... lined up to go racing and me loving have power in the pits on hot, sticky nights!

In happier news, the Lapdogs have lots of great new things to share with you.  Stay tuned for some more tail wagging reviews next week.  Did you catch this week's reviews of Pampered Paws Birthday Cakes and Planet Dog Waterless 2-in-1 Shampoo?  I'll leave you with a few outtakes from our photo shoots... enjoy your weekend!

REVIEW: Planet Dog Waterless 2-in-1 Shampoo

Planet Dog Waterless 2-in-1 Shampoo

Where to Find: Planet Dog

Untitled PlanetDog_62012

Planet Dog recently expanded its collection of award-winning products with a new line of pet shampoos.  The line, which includes Waterless 2-in-1 Shampoo, Oatmeal 2-in-1 Shampoo, Deodorizing Shampoo and Healing Shampoo, is specifically formulated with blends of natural plant-derived ingredients.  All formulas can be used on puppies, dogs, cats, and ferrets!

PlanetDog_Zeus_62012We received the Waterless 2-in-1 Shampoo for review.  Formulated with a blend of coconut and coconut oil, oatmeal extract, almond extract, oatmeal fragrance and almond fragrance, this conditioning shampoo does not need water - or rinsing! Simply spray it liberally onto a dry or damp coat, brush or rub it in, then dry with a towel.  Seriously, it is that easy... and the light almond/oatmeal scent smells clean and refreshing.

Waterless shampoos are becoming more popular these days, because, of course, they make the bathing process not only fast and convenient, but even somewhat enjoyable for furbabies.  I love Planet Dog's Waterless 2-in-1 Shampoo for many reasons: it's Made in the USA by a brand I know, love and trust; it does not contain synthetic dyes; it is a conditioning formula (with two allergy prone dogs this is important); and did I mention how easy it is to use?  Due to the sometimes overwhelming process of bathing four large dogs, I tend to slack PlanetDog_Tut_62012off and only give my babies a few baths a year.  While the Waterless 2-in-1 Shampoo won't replace all of their baths, it will certainly allow me to make their coats shine more often, and more importantly, make my babies stink less!  And, the bonus is I can literally give this "bath" anywhere, anytime and in just minutes - without dogs protesting - talk about a win-win!

PlanetDog_Lola_62012The Waterless 2-in-1 Shampoo, along with the rest of the Planet Dog shampoo line, is sold in 16 oz bottles (the other shampoos are also available in one gallon recyclable containers).  As with all Planet Dog items, the socially responsible company is proud to donate 2% of every purchase to the Planet Dog Foundation (PDF) to support canine service programs nationwide. Since January 2006, PDF has given away more than $850,000 in cash grants and in-kind product donations to help more dogs help more people in need.

You may notice my dear sweet Lola apparently confused the fancy new shampoo with her favorite Planet Dog eats... fear not, she'll get some of those later this week when we review Planet Dog's fancy new brain teaser toy, which just happened to show up on our door step with a box of eats

REVIEW: Pampered Paw Gifts Birthday Cakes for Dogs

Pampered Paw Gifts Birthday Cakes for Dogs

Where to Find: Pampered Paw Gifts

Cake_Lola_612b

We were recently given the opportunity to review a Pampered Paw Gifts Birthday Cake and boy were the Lapdogs' tails wagging for joy when it arrived!

Cake_612cWe received a purple and pink Pampered Paw Gifts round peanut butter cake with not one, but two Signature Ginger Bread Bones.  Not only is the cake beautiful, it's baked with all human-grade ingredients!  This means the humans can share... but, no we did not.  After all, the cake was the perfect size for 4 Lapdog slices!

Cake_Zeus_612b
Pampered Paw Gifts birthday cakes are made with no preservatives, chemicals or added sugar and salt.  The peanut butter cake is made with organic brown rice flour, organic peanut butter, local honey, vanilla, canola oil, organic eggs, baking soda, yogurt icing mix, margarine and food coloring.  The ginger bread bones are made with organic unbleached flour, organic brown rice flour, molasses, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, canola oil and carob.

The icing on the cake looks like fancy fondant, but is actually a yogurt based product that hardens and does not melt.  It is made of pure cane sugar, corn starch, yogurt powder and dried egg whites.  Since the yogurt mixture will not melt, Pampered Paw Gifts cakes are perfect for shipping to your door step any time of year!

Cake_Lola_612c
Pampered Paws Gifts most definitely gets the Official Lapdog 16 Paws Up Seal of Approval!  The cake looked and smelled fantastic... and according to the tail wags and drool, I would have to guess it tasted even better!

In addition to birthday and special occasion cakes, Pampered Paw Gifts also offers several unique gifts for the pampered dogs and cats in your life, as well as the humans who love them.  Check them out today and discover lots of wonderful goodies for everyone on your furbaby list!

Foster Babies Galore

So far, our Monday hasn't been all that exciting.... so for Monday Mischief, we're sharing a few foster baby updates!

First up is the two-colored-eyed handsome Skipper, who has grown to 67 pounds!  His Mom calls Skip her miniature pony and says he enjoys standing at the window barking at all those who pass by (he may have learned that from the Lapdogs... oops!).

Next is the lovable, smart Izzy!  Her parents absolutely adore her and are having a blast teaching her all sorts of tricks.  We met up with them at the dog park last weekend, which is where the pic on the right was snapped (more to come soon from our fun filled day).

Little Maverick is getting to be a big (little) boy... just check out his new "big boy" harness!  I just adore his super cute little pouty face (shhh... don't tell Tut, but I think Mavie is stealing his "I'm Sexy and I Know It" pose)!

His human sister made us a second update video a few weeks ago... isn't she awesome?  I love getting photos... and love, love, love videos!  (note Piggy makes an appearance as well... if you've followed along, I sent him home with Piggy and a blankie, both of which he took to bed with him every single night!)

Last, but certainly not least in today's update is the lovebug Belle!  Yes, yes... I still owe you an official Belle post from the week she spent with us... coming soon, promise!  In the meantime, it makes me so happy that we get to see her nearly every weekend at the race track! She's the perfect race pup and absolutely loves all of her fans!  Here she is watching the driver's meeting yesterday.
