REVIEW: Nature's Variety Prairie Treats

Nature's Variety Prairie Treats

Where to Find: Chewy.com

IMG_20140615_154238

2014-06-15_03-49-30 Our friends over at Chewy sent yet another de-lish treat for the Lapdogs to review this month.  After Lola finished sniffing the box, we opened it to find two bags of Nature's Variety Prairie All Natural Oven-Baked Biscuits.

Nature's Variety Prairie All Natural Oven-Baked Biscuits are bite-size, bone-shaped crunchy treats that are made in the USA with wholesome, all-natural ingredients. They are free of corn, wheat and soy, as well as artificial preservatives, colors and flavors.  And, if you have a tiny pooch, they can easily be broken into smaller bites!

2014-06-15_03-48-45We received one bag each of Pumpkin & Cranberries and Bacon & Apples - both of which smell amazing to my human nose, so I can only imagine what the Lapdogs thought as they were dancing around, begging for more. Seriously, the Pumpkin & Cranberries smelled so yummy, I almost thought about taking a bite myself.... almost. I think Teutul might have had something to say about that (have I ever mentioned he's my dog who talks back... and quite loudly I might add).

Working on a #dogtreat #review for the blog. Lola is so excited, she's got #ElvisLip #dogstagram #dobermanmix #instadog #happydog #dobiemix #seniordog #ilovemyseniordog
Don't take the human's word for it though... Lola thought  Nature's Variety Prairie All Natural Oven-Baked Biscuits were so fabulous that she even got her Elvis-lip going for them...

While the Lapdogs sampled these two drool-worthy flavors, Nature's Variety Prairie All Natural Oven-Baked Biscuits are also available in Peanut Butter & Bananas and Chicken & Cheddar Cheese.  I'm quite sure we'll be sampling those next.  Although Zeus and Sophie both claim to hate bananas, I've found they don't mind treats with bananas in them (kids these days...).  And who doesn't love chicken and cheddar cheese?  Mmmm... all four of the Prairie flavors sound like they would make fabulous human treats, don't they?  Maybe bagels or muffins?

Chewy WhiteOkay, so maybe it's breakfast time... and maybe I'm hungry...  On that note, I'd like to remind you that you can not only order these delish treats from Chewy.com, but you can also order hundreds (thousands?) of other items for your pack.  Make sure you stock up too, because all orders over $49 placed at Chewy.com receive free 1-2 day shippingThe Lapdogs love Chewy and are sure your pups will too!

Disclosure: Chewy.com sent 2 bags of Nature's Variety Prairie treats to Lapdog Creations, free of charge for review purposes. I was not compensated for this review and all opinions expressed are my own.

Happy dog! In his way to see his favorite vet... #dogstagram #instadog #seniordog #happydog #carride #love #smile #ilovemyseniordog

My See Beautiful moment was when our vet called Zeus a "Happy Old Man" at his check-up last week.  Evidence was captured above during his R-I-D-E to visit Dr. C... seriously, have you seen a happier looking old man?

2014-06-05_08-01-38

Although Zeus would like to think he just visited to give Dr. C kisses, we were actually there to check his liver levels and have her take a look at that growing lump on his right shoulder.  The lump is indeed growing and is "possibly" the C-word, however we will continue to simply monitor it, as the risks of surgery to remove it far outweigh those of just letting it be (the possible type of cancer does not spread).  His liver issues, megaesophagus and reaction to sutures in the past are all red flags for any type of surgery... never mind the fact he's the ripe 'ole age of 13!

2014-06-05_08-03-05

Zeus' liver levels came back within the range we've been bouncing around for the past year or two, so we will continue doing what we're doing (samE and milk thistle).  Dr. C noticed one of his kidney levels was ever so slightly elevated, so we did one additional blood test, as well as a urine test to be sure his kidneys were functioning properly... and those both came back well within normal ranges.  Yay for my Happy Old Man!

Due to some increased stiffness, we did opt to increase his tramadol dosage slightly and that seems to be helping.  I've also adjusted his food to about half as much kibble as he used to get, with additional soft canned food added to help his ongoing megaesophagus issues.  And while he's clearly an old man, Dr. C continues to remind us how remarkable it is for such a big dog to be so happy at 13. We're truly lucky and I cherish every single day with my big boy.

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Bartley's

Bartley's

www.BartleysForDogs.com

 1175198_123552181164405_1250024468_n

When I was approached by Bartley's about reviewing some of the products they sell and helping to spread the word about their online store, I jumped at the chance.  You see, Bartley's isn't just another online pet boutique selling all-natural, made in the USA treats and an array of toys and accessories... Bartley's is the online pet boutique where your purchase can really make a difference in the life of a shelter dog.  Each and every time you shop, you sponsor a rescue dog!  This is a cause near and dear to my heart, so you know how loudly I want to shout from the rooftops about Bartley's.  Here it goes...

codepage

At one time or another, I'm sure we've all shopped at an online retailer who promises our purchases are "giving back" or funding a great cause.  But, when have you actually seen what you've funded?  Every Bartley's order comes with a card showing a special code number.  Visit the "Enter Your Code" tab on the website, type in your number (ours was 110043) and viola... you'll see exactly who's life you helped to save! I think this is incredibly cool!  Not only do you have the satisfaction of supporting a rescue dog in need (all while making your dog incredibly happy with his or her new treats and toys), but you actually see that dog and read that dog's story.  One word; brilliant.

Dan Freeman is the man behind this brilliancy.  He founded Bartley's, which is named after his own rescue dog (yes, that's his adorable mug in the logo), in 2013.  Dan was volunteering for a couple of rescue groups 3 years ago when he and Bartley's paths crossed, and the rest was history.  After seeing the great need of funding for surgeries, vaccinations, spay/neuter and even food, Dan knew he had to help make a difference.  He also knew he only wanted to sell USA-made treats and high quality toys, proclaiming "If I won't give them to my dog, we won't sell them."  You can read more about the Bartley's story here.

Now, let's get to the fun part... the goodies the Lapdogs received for review!  And, yes, if you hadn't guessed already, the Lapdogs are giving Bartley's their official 16 paw up seal of approval!

Tux from West Paw.  A recyclable, stuffable, bouncy chew toy that is Made in the USA and guaranteed tough!  You can stuff Tux with treats, peanut butter, cream cheese or just about anything your pup's heart desires.  Tux even floats and is dishwasher safe!

Zuke's Z-Filets.  The Lapdogs went nuts for these tasty beef treats (also available in chicken and venison).  They are grain-free, high protein and of course, Made in the USA.  I love that meat makes up 80% of the content, and I can easily break them into smaller pieces for training.

grainfreebeef_1024x1024

Soft and Chewy Buddy Biscuit Grain Free Treats.  These are no stranger to the Lapdogs, who drool over the cute little buddies.  Available in beef, peanut butter, chicken or cheddar, there's sure to be a flavor to please every pooch.  And, they're perfect for dogs with allergies or those who need softer treats.

IMG_20140502_180124_477-1Salsa from West Paw.  While the Lapdogs clearly enjoyed everything in their Bartley's goody box, I think this furry, squeaky, sasquatch-like creature was Sophie's absolute favorite!  He comes in 2 sizes, 19" regular or 13" baby, and each is available in 3 color choices - blue, green or yellow.  We received the very lovable regular yellow buddy.  And when I say he is Sophie's favorite, I'm not kidding.  Here's proof...

IMG_20140502_183429_546-1Not only does Sophie love Mr. Salsa (and yes, that's Tux in orange you see briefly), her siblings are equally fond of him.  I have a feeling I might be ordering a couple more of these funky guys very soon.

I hope you are as excited to support Bartley's as I am!  How would you like to win a gift certificate to get your started?
