DockDogs

Happy Dogs on Thursday /Little Friday!  As promised, I saved the best fair photos for today... the DockDogs competition!  We saw both the Speed Retrieve and Big Air events (for a good explanation of the different events, see this link).

I only got photos of the Big Air event, since we were standing out of the splash zone further back during Speed Retrieve.

This pointer was adorable!  During some practice runs for Speed Retrieve, his owner couldn't get him to jump off the dock.... but when it came time for Big Air, he was all about getting his ball! 



Big Air?  How about Big SPLASH!



We were able to stand right up at the edge of the pool which was a very cool experience.  Yes, I got splashed... more than once! At least it was a nice day...

Wwweeeeeee!!!!!!!!  Love those ears!



 

 

I had seen DockDogs on TV several times before, but can now say... nothing beats being there!  What a fun experience!  I wish we had gotten Lola or Tut into this when they were pups... maybe with the next pup (and no, there are no plans for another dog right now).  I used to think I wanted to get involved in flyball, but am now starting to think DockDogs would be even more fun!

Speaking of fun, remember the great time Tut and Lola had last weekend at Woof It Down's "Best of NH" party?  Shortly after I posted about it, Patty called to say we had won the Bravo basket in the raffle (which benefited the Animal Rescue Network of New England)!  Woo hoo... the pups sure were excited about the treats and Mama's got another a new yarn basket!

10 Reasons to Watch Football

This week's Ten on Tuesday topic is 10 Reasons to Watch Football - and how appropriate given that I spent this past Sunday at the Pats Season Opener (which means lots of pictures mixed in below)! 



1. It's football - one of my top three favorite sports, along with hockey and NASCAR

2. New England Patriots - I'm a life long fan, born and raised...

 3. Sundays - they were made for R&F - relaxing and watching football - especially in the winter! Monday & Thursday nights occasionally work as well.



4. Knitting - knitting and football season go hand-in-hand... nothing beats a cold winter Sunday hanging out at home with the man & the pups, something yummy in the crock pot, something soft on the needles...

5. Wes Welker - love to watch him zig and zag all over the field... love it even more when he's in the end zone!

6. College Games - while I'm not a college football fan myself, I have friends who are die-hards.... it's great to catch a game with them every now and then.

7. Doug Flutie - I'll never forget the BC Hail Mary pass (especially since I was watching the game at Nana's house) or the Patriots drop kick extra point in 2006... the first since 1941!



8. Community/Comradery/Friends - nothing beats hanging out with 68,000 at the stadium or 10 in someone's living room (however, the snacks are usually better in the living rooms)

9. Fantasy Football  - I finally gave in and played for the first time last year and I won my league!  Not off to such a great start in Week 1 this season, but I have hope...



10. Tedy Bruschi - the one and only, truly a class act....

A Woofy Good Time

Is it really Monday already?  What a great weekend it was, but boy did it go by fast!  On Saturday, we took Lola and Teutul over to Woof it Down for the "Best of NH" party celebrating their recent achievement in the 2010 New Hampshire Magazine awards.

A great time was had by all!  There was cake (for those with 4 legs, as well as those with only 2), Yoghund frozen yogurt for the pups, raffles to benefit the Animal Rescue Network of New England, vendors with samples to share and more!  Lola made friends with the lady from Stella and Chewy's, sweet talking her into more samples than she probably deserved.  Even though freeze dried treats are one of his favorite, Tut was too preoccupied with knowing what all of the other dogs were doing to partake in sampling.  He even turned down C-A-K-E, but no worries... Lola sure ate her fair share!

We met a wonderful lady from Natura who took time to ask about all of our dogs' ages, needs and allergies, then put together a bag full of kibble samples from their three major brands (Innova, California Natural and EVO) for us to take home.  On Lola's recent trip to the V-E-T, the thought of switching her to a senior formula was mentioned.  Lola certainly doesn't understand why she has been singled out as a senior, given that her brother Zeus is 16 months older than she is and no one has suggested a senior food to him yet.  Although given her activity of choice at the party, you might see why she's been called a senior...

Although the lazy Queen sure did know how to fool Mama when she wanted too!  While her Daddy distracted was showing me some toy, she got up and stole one of those big bones that you can see in the photo on the left (notice Teutul right there next to them, yet he didn't help himself to one... which is actually surprising).  Hmmm... think Lola and Daddy were working together on that one?  We just added the bone to the purchase pile, which already included a new moose antler and a bag of Fruitables.  At least there was a 10% off party-special!

Patty & John, owners of Woof it Down, really put on a wonderful, fun-filled event.  The personal touch they add to everything they do is just another reason why we love WID so much!  We were sent home with a super goodie bag full of samples from Zuke's, Stella and Chewy's, Fromm, Merrick and more, as well as a Yoghund frozen yogurt for all 4 dogs.

All partied out and time to head for home...

Sophie & Zeus were happy that their brother and sister were kind enough to bring them home some ice cream!  Although Zeus was even happier with the new moose antler...
