Kurgo Loft Jacket Combines Function and Style

While Old Man Winter may have said goodbye, Mother Nature is making sure Spring says hello with some wind, cold temps, and even a little snow.

As any New Englander knows, we just need to keep our winter coats and boots out a little longer - and yes, that includes the dog jackets!

Disclosure: Kurgo sent a Loft Jacket, free of charge, for review purposes. We only share information that we feel is relevant to our readers, and all opinions expressed are our own. This post contains affiliate links. If you click on one and make a purchase, we may receive a few pennies to assist in maintaining this blog.

Penny has a brand new Kurgo jacket to show off in her favorite color, purple. (Okay, so maybe it's my favorite color but she certainly rocks it)

We were both pretty excited about being asked to review the Kurgo Loft Jacket. My fashionista loves adding to her wardrobe, and I've been interested in learning more about the Kurgo brand and their products.

Not only are they a New England company (based in Salisbury, MA), but when NH Chronicle did a piece on them in 2015, I was really wishing I worked there!

The company culture is a perfect fit for any crazy dog Mama, there are probably more dogs in their office than humans, they give back to the community through the Kurgo Foundation, and their offices are uber cool! Seriosly now, who wouldn't love to have their office in a recycled shipping container?

Kurgo was born out of Kitter and Gordie Spater's lifelong passion for pets. The brothers, born and raised in Vermont, combined their entrepreneurial background with a personal need when Kitter's beloved Plott Hound was thrown from the back seat to the floor of the driver's side during a short car ride. This prompted the pair to design Kurgo's first product, the Backseat Barrier.

Both brothers are personally involved in all aspects of Kurgo, including design, manufacturing, and customer service, and they continue to only create products that satisfy a need.
"Like resourceful Yankee artisans that came before us, we craft products that are long on usefulness and quality, and short on frivolity. So when you see a dog wearing a coat with a Kurgo logo on it, you can rest assured it’s cold outside." - Kurgo website

The lightweight Loft Jacket was designed to help dogs brave the chilly fall and winter months. The fitted style is perfect for athletic dogs who run, hike and adventure in inclement weather. It keeps the core warm and dry while allowing dogs to move freely, as it does not cover the entire length of most dogs.

As with all of Kurgo's products, the Loft Jacket is a high quality piece that will last. Made from rugged Microtomic™ Ripstop material and 140g Polytech fill, with a reversible waterproof shell, this coat will make both you and your dog happy campers... or hikers, day-trippers, errand runners...

The Loft Jacket is available in five different sizes, ranging from X-Small to X-Large (Penny is wearing a Medium). The two side adjustment points help to get a comfortable fit, and a two-way zipper on the back allows you to easily attach a leash to the dog's collar or harness. I really like this feature, as some jackets only have a small opening near the neck for a collar, but the zipper allows you to get to a harness d-ring as well.

The other thing I really love is the fact that the coat is easy to clean. As a busy, always-on-the-go dog Mom, this is a must. Dirt and mud easily wipes off with a damp cloth, but when you want a little extra cleaning, the jacket is machine washable. Win!

While function is always number one with Kurgo, they aren't afraid to offer up some style too. The Loft Jacket is currently available in five very stylish color combinations - Blue/Orange, Green/Charcoal, Chili Red/Dark Charcoal, Ink Blue/Sea Glass, and our favorite, Deep Violet/Light Charcoal.

Key Benefits of Loft Jacket
  • Durable Microtomic™ Ripstop material
  • Water resistant
  • 2-way zipper allows lead attachment to collar or harness
  • Reversible
  • Reflective piping for added visibility
  • Available in five sizes and five color combinations
  • Two side adjustment points for a comfortable fit
  • Machine washable (hang to dry)

We love the Kurgo Loft Jacket and know you will too. I'm sure we still have many cool spring days ahead that Penny will get to use hers, but I'm sort of almost looking forward to some chilly fall hikes (okay, you got me again... I'm always looking forward to fall).

I know a few people who use the Kurgo Loft jacket and love it. Does Penny have a pretty deep chest? It's hard to tell from pictures. I've thought about getting one for Boomer, but a lot of jackets don't fit her well because her hound dog chest is HUGE. Also, Penny looks AMAZING in purple!

I love the Kurgo Products - how interesting to hear a bit of the company history. I think I'd like to work there too. Jealous you have seen the offices. Penny sure is rocking that purple jacket.

This sounds like a great coat! Love the zipper so you can get to the dog's harness D ring, and love that it's machine washable! Very stylish at the same time. Love the purple too!!

That looks like a great jacket. I love the purple on Penny. I think I'd love the seaglass color!

Stylish for sure. I'd be concerned about it getting caught on branches and things.

Gorgeous and functional jacket, I love it. That's the thing about having a feline household, none of them will tolerate clothing!

We love the color, purple :) It looks like such a great jacket and love the idea that it closes underneath that way so the belly does stay warm and dry also

Love the sound of it, and the look. Red wears a sweater for a good part of the year, both indoors and out, and in colder weather also wears a jacket. What can I say, she's a Florida girl living in colder climes!! I'm always on the lookout for something to keep her warm and this sounds like it would make a great addition to her wardrobe. Thanks for sharing.

This is a warm looking jacket. These days the chill can get very deep in no time, so having body warm is criticial to keeping a pet warm.

I truly need to get more jackets for our Lyla. She only has one, her thunder vest. Being someone who loves fashion I have failed my Lyla by not dressing her up more. This is such a pretty shade of purple too!

What a great looking jacket! With Siberian Huskies, while I think they would look adorable in this stylish jacket, they would not be happy with me putting a coat on them! I really love the color (perfect for this past Purple Day for Epilepsy awareness)! Thanks for the great review! I'll be sharing this with others who dogs love wearing coats!

Living in the South, we never really considered that dogs (and cats) would need jackets to keep them warm in the cold weather.

That is a nice looking coat! My dogs don't need coats very often, but I'm glad we have several. The zipper for the D-ring is a great idea.

Lookin' good! I too am a purple lover, and you're right...she's rocking the look! We have always loved Kurgo but have never tried their outerwear for Bean or Yoda. I'll have to keep them in mind for next time we need something to help protect them from the elements. Thanks for sharing!

I love that jacket!! Unfortunately, the way our weather is going, I'm going to need cooling jackets for the dogs this year.
