Spring Cleaning

Doggy day again already? It seems like I was just complaining saying how the weekend went by too fast, but now its almost here again. I'm starting to think the real problem is just how busy the weekends have been lately...

Last weekend I had intended to get some spring cleaning done around the house, but other than a quick vacuum, this is as far as I got...

Toys_42509b Toys_42509

I hadn't gone thru the kids' toys in ages and, as you can clearly see, they have been very spoiled and acquired more toys than any 4 dogs should have a lot more toys than I had thought. We have 2 baskets in the living room that make a good effort at trying to contain the mess house their stash... So I started by dumping them both out and began sorting...

Toys_42509_Tut

Tut kept a close eye on the "cleaning" - which made it hard to try to send anything to doggy toy heaven.... even though there are toys in here that we got when Zeus was a puppy (he's now 8) and toys that no one plays with... ever.

Sophie_toys_42509

Sophie was more content to run in and grab something, then dash back to the couch. When all was said and done, we had two overflowing baskets of clean, sorted toys (yes, I was anal enough to put balls & bones in one, squeakies, stuffed toys, tuggies, ropes & kongs in the other) and a small bag of toys to drop off at the local dog park. Did I mention I didn't even dare to clean out the mess toys & bones from under the couches and in various spots around the house?

In other doggy news... We've been seeing the usual claming of the morning sun spots this past week. This was going to be a cute pig-pile shot of Tut, Lola and Sophie but the queen had to get down as soon as I grabbed the camera...

She left Tut & Sophie to bask in the glow...

Where was Zeus? Why, he was hiding out in another room of course... being smart enough to find a sun spot that he doesn't have to share!

Enjoy the rest of your little Friday...

Busy Weekends...

I know I'm not the only one watching the weekends disappear quickly fill up as spring blooms, but we have had a couple of busy ones here! I've just now had the chance to actually download some photos...

April 18th was our friends' wedding, with the rehearsal dinner the night before (Matt was in the wedding).

Congrats Eric & Shannon who went from this... to Mr & Mrs!

Rehearsal_ShannonEric_41709 Wedding_ShannonEric_41809

The guys snazzied-up pretty nicely too...

Rehearsal_41709c Wedding_LouMattBen_41809

We used the not-typical-attire occassion to have our own little photo shoot get a few new pics... which I'm sure our parents will be glad to have.

Reception_MattNic_41809 Reception_MattNic_41809b

I can't decide which one I like, so here's another for good measure...

Reception_MattNic_41809c

... and with friends too!

This past weekend was racing practice, which means we will soon be busy most Sundays.... but not all Sundays like usual, as the track has scaled back their schedule a bit due to the economy.

Matt_42609e Matt_42609d

We're happy to have some old friends back at the track to race this year... which should make the summer a little more fun! Welcome back Nate and Andrew!

Matt_Nate_1stPractice2009_42609 Andrew_42609e

You may notice that I have no knitting update photos. While I did not bring my knitting to the wedding or reception, thank you very much, I did bring my knitting to racing on Sunday but never got it out. That will change soon! I just noticed an heirloom Bride's Bag pattern this past week in the new Interweave Knits and thought why the heck didn't I think of that for Shannon? My knitting brain has been a little foggy lately... so you will please excuse me, no?

So what are your weekends full of lately? Any knitting?

Always Have Your Victory Dance Ready

Happy Friday!!! Even though I had Monday off this week, its been a long week. But one thing is certain... my Bruins swept the Canadiens and we have tickets to Game 1 of Round 2! WOO HOO! As Bear says, always have your victory dance ready...

Now, time for a little Friday Fill-Ins...

1. Apparently there's some sort of idiot button that's been pressed lately.
2. Where, oh where is my sunny day.
3. 2009 has been enlightening and somewhat complicated so far.
4. The last straw broke, the friendship ended.. that was it.
5. For too long I've been sleeping on an uncomfortable mattress.
6. I am not obsessed with yarn; I am not!
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to some much needed down time, tomorrow my plans include being outside in the unseaonably warm weather that's supposed to roll in and Sunday, I want to knit, relax, watch the race... !

Thursday already?

Happy Doggy Day! The Dogs on Thursday 100th post contest winners were announced this morning... congrats to all! I will be sending prizes to Dianne and her pack.

Its been a hectic week around here, so this is going to be a short post. If you only stop by on Thursdays, please scroll back to the Planet Dog Earth Day review. I had hoped to post my Green Dog, Good Dog review today - but that'll have to wait another day or two... in the meantime, some pictures of the kids...

Sophie being Sophie...

Zeus had been lounging in the driveway, but when I tried to sneak up on him for pictures, he got up... typical guy.

Zeus_4809

This is what Teutul has to say about all this rain we've been getting...

Tut_tongue_4709

The rain has kept everyone cooped up in the house... but the hooey hounds have been annoying the heck out of playing with each other. Here they are with Mr. Sheepie, which for those who asked... is still in one piece and doing quite well! I definitely recommend the Hard Boiled Softies by Kyjen for all your chewers!

SophieTut_40509

Zeus has been so upset with all the rain lately, he's even allowed Lola to share a couch with him...

REVIEW: Planet Dog Earth Day Gifts

Planet Dog: Earth Day Gifts for Dog & Cat Lovers and Their Companions
Where to Find:
Planet Dog

PlanetDog_309

We've been reviewing Planet Dog items here in the Lapdog household for some time now and with this batch of goodies, we decided to get some other opinions.

Chan's girls Sissy and Gretchen had the pleasure of reviewing the Orbee-Tuff Adopt Ball.

Girls_ball PD_ball

Both girls absolutely loved the ball, especially Gretchen. Despite its large size (in comparision to her petite size) and regardless of the lack of squeaker, Gretch really does think it's one awesome ball!

Gretch_ball

Chan reports that the ball is the only toy she will allow Gretchen to take in and out at will, although Mom does bring it in when she doesn't. She's really starting to do that terrier thing of snapping her head around, and this ball is her favorite thing to have in her mouth when she does it. Chan thinks perhaps its the hole in the middle, allowing the ball to collapse a bit.

Jessi was gracious enough to have her feline crew test out the Orbee-Tuff Adopt Mouse. She reports that she tried multiple times to get any one of her four cats to play with the toy... with no success.

CatToy

Here are a few of Jessi's thoughts as to why they were uninterested: 1. The toy was very heavy in comparison to other cat toys I've bought them and I can't see any of them picking this up in their mouths for very long or being able to bat it across the floor. 2. The toy advertised a mint flavor/scent. Maybe a catnip scented mouse would interest and attract a cat's attention more? Otherwise, the toy seemed very well made. I can see this being a favorite for a dog, such as a rat terrier.

I agree with Jessi on the Orbee-Tuff adopt mouse seeming to be made more along the lines of Planet Dog's usual dog toys. I wouldn't give it to my dogs because of the tail (which they could chew off), but it would seem most appropriate for small dogs.

In honor of Earth Day, I wanted to leave you with some information on Planet Dog's new Green T Collection! I had the pleasure of reviewing the "reduce your carbon pawprint" one and absolutely love it!

Each of the Green T's is printed in the USA with earth-safe, phthalate-free inks after being made in India in a factory that operates with partial wind and solar power. The 100% certified organic short-sleeved shirts are as soft as a puppy's ears and meet the Global Organic Textile Standard.

The Green T collection includes four styles: "reduce your carbon pawprint"; "reduce. reuse. rewoof."; "think globally. act doggedly" and "you had me at woof." Each is offered in both women's and men's cuts except for "you had me at woof." which is only available in women's sizing.

Whether creating great products, providing financial resources or helping to educate consumers about canine-related issues, Planet Dog is proud to be a pet industry leader with proven socially responsible initiatives that bring people and dogs together for fun and mutual support. "As a small company doing big things, our goal will always be to improve the world around us by giving back to our community, our workforce and the environment," says Alex Fisher, Planet Dog's Founder. "Our internal mantra is "think globally, act doggedly."

Planet Dog’s corporate philanthropic arm is the Planet Dog Foundation (PDF). The Foundation, whose mission is to promote and celebrate programs that enable dogs to serve and support their best friends, receives a percentage of every Planet Dog purchase. In turn, it is donated back to non-profit canine service programs nationwide.

“We’re doing what no other pet product company is doing," says Catherine Frost, Planet Dog's Brand and Product Champion. “We offer innovative, top-quality products that dogs love, all while supporting service dog programs, encouraging pet adoption and protecting Planet Earth. Our goal is for our actions to speak louder than woofs,” adds Frost.

Since January 2006, PDF has given away more than a half a million dollars in cash and in-kind donations to several worthy organizations. For more information and a full list of programs and grantees, please visit http://www.planetdogfoundation.org/.

Have Couch, Will Perch

Happy Doggy Day!!! Have you entered Dogs on Thursday's 100th post contest yet? If not, wag on over and read Sue's post. She has included many ideas on how you can enter. Don't forget, if you're renewing your ASPCA membership (or becoming a new member), you can do so by clicking thru my fundraising banner at the top of this blog.

Its finally warming up a little and starting to feel like spring! We're approaching 60 today and high 60's tomorrow - woo hoo! Here are some pics from the rather lazy - and very chilly - Easter Sunday morning we had...

Sophie enjoyed some sunshine, even if the wind was making her ears go all crazy, and was on the hunt for birdies...

Sophie_41209c Sophie_41209b

Lola played her usual role as queen and yes, that's the back of the sofa she's perched on. After all, its a prime spot for looking out the front door you know...

Zeus was just trying to relax when his pesky sister had to climb up there...

LolaZeus_41209 Zeus_41209

Teutul decided it was a "photo-op" day with both Lola and Zeus.
