Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Sophie's Words of Wisdom... kick back, relax and enjoy this long weekend!

Sophie_41411

We hope everyone has a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend.  A special thank you to the men and women who serve (and have served) this great nation of ours - and to their families who sacrifice so much.

And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me. ~ Lee Greenwood

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Prefense Hand Sanitizer

Prefense Hand Sanitizer
Where to FindPrefense

Whether your children have 2 legs or 4, I would bet that you carry a bottle of hand sanitizer or wipes in your purse.  Maybe you have one stashed in the car, one on the kitchen counter and one in your gym bag?  I know that if you're a knitter, you've got one in your project bag as well.

As a Dog Mom/Knitter/Crew Chief-significant other of a racer/all around Animal Lover, hand sanitizer is a must.  Whether it's a trip to the dog park, fondling yarn at a tent sale, helping to fix thing-a-ma-bobs at the race track or petting the flock at a fiber festival, hand sanitizer is a part of my daily life, as I'm sure it is yours.

Wouldn't it be nice if we only had to use hand sanitizer once per day and not after every. single. sheep. we touch?  That's where Prefense comes in... "one spray lasts all day."

Prefense is a unique foaming hand sanitizer that protects against staph, strep, E.coli, drug resistant MRSA strains, and more.  Made of all-natural ingredients (there is absolutely NO alcohol in it), Prefense protects for up to 24 hours or 10 hand washings!  It is non-toxic, safe for kids and will not hurt you if swallowed.

Unlike traditional alcohol sanitizers, Prefense is silica based and will not dry out your hands.  I was a little skeptical about this and figured it it didn't dry out my hands, it would probably leave them with a greasy film.  I'm happy to report this is not the case! Prefense actually seems to smooth and soften my hands.  It even contains soothing botanicals to prevent drying, redness and chapping  Simply apply Prefense to dry hands, rub them together and let dry.  There is no slimy residue left behind, nor any odor.  Best of all, the fact that one application lasts all day makes it very convenient for us always-on-the-go types, not to mention the lazy in all of us!

Prefense is economical as well.  I received the 1.5 oz Prefense Foaming Hand Sanitizer which offers 120 applications, costing just $.08 per day, compared to $1.20 per day with alcohol hand sanitizers.  I can live with that... as well as not pulling out the bottle every 20 minutes to reapply!

Are you ready to check it out for yourself?  Prefense is now available for you to purchase directly from their website in several sizes.  Order a small one for the car and a large for the house.  You can learn more about Prefense via their Facebook page or follow them on Twitter

Image of Prefense 8 ozGIVEAWAY! Prefense is allowing me to giveaway one of the awesome big 8oz size bottles to one of you.  This equals over 640 applications!  With a spray lasting all day, this one bottle of Prefense could potentially last one user almost 2 years!  To enter:

1) Leave a comment here telling me why you wan to win!
2) You must be a US resident.  Prefense will ship the product directly to you.

Winners will be selected by random number generator.
Deadline for entries is Thursday, June 2 at midnight.

The Lapdogs received
bully sticks, elk antlers, organic shampoo and a bag of Dog Rocks for review.  Of course, they were most enthused about the elk antlers and bully sticks... I couldn't get the shots without little noses in the corners!

BullyStickDirect_411cBullyStickDirect_411b

BullyStickDirect_Zeus_411The Lapdogs are huge fans of antler chews, as is the Lapdog Mama.  I no longer give them rawhide and these are a wonderful, longer lasting, safer solution.  The elk antlers from BullyStickDirect have no odor, leave no residue, will not splinter and are a perfect long lasting all natural chew.

BullyStickDirect_411dDog Rocks are a unique product used to help prevent burn patches left on your lawn after your pooch does her business.  The natural product from Australia is designed to be placed into your dog's water bowl.  You can learn move about Dog Rocks here. We did not review this product due to the nature of how they work.  Instead of emptying your dog's water bowl, you must just continue to add fresh water to it.  Due to the pickiness of some of the Lapdogs who prefer not to drink their sibling's drool, this is not possible in our house.  If anyone is interested in trying these out, please email me.  We'd be more than happy to pass the bag along to you if you'd just cover the shipping.

Ten on Tuesday fun

It's time for a little Ten on Tuesday fun again. Today's topic is 10 Favorite Mail Order Catalogs.  This is probably more like 10 favorite online shopping sites for me, since I rarely actually look through a catalog anymore, but...

1. Drugstore.com... I get everything from toothpaste and soap to dog treats and vitamins from them.

2. Amazon... One-stop shopping for CDs, books, movies, magazines... even shoes!

3. Sephora... I love their selection, plus you get 3 free samples with every order and you earn points towards deluxe samples.

Zukes_Zeus_hat_510b4. Zukes... one of the favorites of the Lapdogs, we can never have too many Zukes treats in the house!

5. Snapfish... Great for regular prints or photo gifts.  I order holiday cards from them as well.

6. Kohls... When I get too lazy to go to the store, I shop on line.  I tend to know my size in most of their brands, but if I do have to return something, they have one of the easiest in store return policies around!

LoppyLiteFall2010

7. The Loopy Ewe... Although I've been on a self-imposed yarn diet as of late, I adore Loopy and am a proud Loopy Groupie!

8. BarnesandNoble.com... Most of my purchases from BN lately have been ebooks for my Nook, but I also shop for CDs there too (and compare prices to Amazon).

Lapdog Creations Fitted T-Shirt9. CafePress.com... I do buy quite a few things from my own Lapdog Creations storefront and Matt's Hooligan Motorsports storefront, but I also find myself shopping for fun and different items on there.  Some of my favorite purchases have been my "Rescue Dogs Rock" and "Crazy Dog Lady" tees, as well as "Hello Pitbull" bag.

CupCozy_0506011017

10. etsy.com... If I'm looking for something unique for a gift or for myself, this is where I head.  My fellow knitters and crafters know how special a handmade item is to get and you can find just about anything and everything in one place!  My latest purchase was this fun "Caffeinating... Please Wait" cozy.

REVIEW: Planet Marshmallow

Planet Marshmallow
Where to Find: Planet Marshmallow

PlanetMarshmallow

It's not often that the boxes of treats arriving at Lapdog Creations are for the humans to review, so I was more than delighted when we recently had the opportunity to review gourmet treats from Planet Marshmallow.

Planet Marshmallow is the result of a lifelong dream of two New Hampshire women, Kristi Buttler and Heather Cox, to start their own food centric business. Loving to cook the way they do, and the opportunity to create something unique and fun was irresistible to both of them.  While making marshmallows for holiday gift giving, the pair became intrigued with the idea of creating different flavors and soon was enthusiastically making multiple batches and calling each other to compare notes. When family and friends began consuming the product as fast as they could make it, Kristi and Heather knew they had a winner!

PlanetMarshmallow3We received a full size bag of Mint Chocolate Chip, a sample bag of Chocolate Chipotle and a special sampling of their newest flavor, Chocolate Peanut Butter Bash.  Let me sum up everything in one word... delish!  I was not aware of just how much I would enjoy gourmet marshmallows until now.

The Mint Chocolate Chip is "like the ice cream, minus the headache."  These are absolutely wonderful.  The balance of chocolate and mint is perfect.  They would make really yummy s'mores, not to mention be the perfect addition in your next cup of hot cocoa!

I personally am not a fan of spicy foods at. all., however I have to say the Chocolate Chipotle was a surprisingly yummy treat.  "Made with high quality cocoa, natural chocolate flavoring, and smoky, dark, chipotle... it's the flavor combination you didn't know you needed to have."  Matt enjoys spicy foods and he thought these were phenomenal.  The heat is like a little after bite, but not too intense.  I wouldn't eat the whole bag at once, but I'd certainly snack on one here and there.

PlanetMarshmallow2For for those who know me, you know I eat peanut butter straight from the jar love peanut butter.  When I heard Chocolate Peanut Butter Bash was the newest flavor, I just couldn't wait to try them.  The official description reads, "Our natural vanilla marshmallow combined with crushed peanut butter cups. We call in 'bash' because when it's chocolate and peanut butter together...that's a party in every bag!"  Why yes, this is a party in a bag!  Did I mention delish already?  I must get more of these soon!

I'm intrigued to try the other flavors of these gourmet marshmallows and to experiment with using them for s'mores, fondue, in hot cocoa and coffee, on ice cream, etc.  I think Chai Spice would be fabulous in a cup of coffee, Toasted Coconut would add a lovely touch to a cup of cocoa and fondue would be a blast with some Cookies 'n Cream

Planet Marshmallow products can be found at several specialty shops and farmer's markets in New Hampshire.  You can locate a store that carries Planet Marshamallow here (including online retailers), as well as find out more on their Facebook page or follow them on Twitter.  What are you waiting for?  I know your mouth is watering... go order some now!

Remember the white stuff?

Happy Dogs on Thursday (anyone else notice the DOT blog hasn't been updated in a month - is it still active?) / Thankful Thursday / Little Friday!

It's been raining here all week long and while that is no fun, at least I can say it's not snow!  Do you remember what that was like... the mountains we had in our yard?  If not, let me refresh your memory.  These are from February...

Stormy Skies

Happy Wordless Wednesday!  We're in the middle of a very dreary, rainy week here so these seem appropriate...

The sky just before the NELCAR Legends took to the track for their feature race at Seekonk Speedway... thankfully the rain held off until they were off the track but there was some nasty lightening in the distance.

10 Favorite Things to do Outside

It's time for a little Ten on Tuesday fun.  Today's topic is 10 Favorite Things to do Outside... more like "10 Things I Want to do Outside" given this craptastic rainy week we're having here in New England.

8_Car_51411e1. Racing... be it a NASCAR race or at the local short track.  Most of you know Matt raced gokarts for 10 years and this year moved into the NELCAR Legends series.  I posted some of my thoughts on the experience during Blogger's sick day on Friday, so in case you missed it, check it out here.  Those are are the last pictures you'll see of the blue bomber... we finally unveiled the black and gold paint scheme on Saturday!

Bingo_Zeus_73110
Zeus and foster Bingo
2. Play with the dogs... what better way to spend a nice day outside?  I would like to start walking with the dogs more this summer.

3. Take a spin around the farmer's markets... the sights and smells are always wonderful and nothing beats fresh, local produce.

KnittinRacin_607094. Knit... for those who read the post linked above about racing... nope, still not one stitch knit at the track yet this year!  I used to manage to combine knitting and racing...

Mattgrilling_920095. BBQ... although I admit, Matt does all of the BBQing in our house.  I could go for some steak tips and corn on the cob on the grill right about now!

6. Hang out with family... this one goes along with BBQing.  Family get togethers are always fun, but they're even more enjoyable when everyone can play outside.

KidRock_72410g
7. Go to outdoor concerts... outdoor venues always seem to be more fun, even in the rain (so long as we leave out any nasty thunder and lightening, thank you very much).

Roses_618108. Take pictures... what can I say, I'm a shutterbug at heart.  Mom always had a camera with her while I was growing up, so I guess it's in my blood.  It seems I'm now never without one of three cameras (point and shoot, Nikon D90 or cell phone) and, yes, often you will find me with all three

9. Enjoy the wildlife... birds, bunnies, woodchucks... I can do without the snakes and spiders however.

10. Stop and smell the roses... the shutterbug in me likes to stop and photograph them too.
