Like most pets, the Lapdogs crave a little taste of the wild every now and then.

They also crave a tasty mix-in with their dinner, so we did not hesitate when our friends over at Chewy offered us the chance to try Taste of the Wild canned recipes.

I've been using high-quality canned food as one of our dinner mix-ins for years, and am always looking for new options. After all, variety is the spice of life and no one wants to eat the same 'ole thing day after day - including our furry family members.

I was already familiar with the Taste of the Wild brand, as we fed their dry kibble to some of the Lapdogs in the past, and was pretty confident that they would love the wet food just as much.

There are five recipes available, all of which have a corresponding dry kibble formula which makes life easier if you like to switch between dry and wet, or if you use both like we do. It's also great for dogs with allergies or food sensitivities, as you can stick with the same recipes while offering wet food to mix things up a little bit.

Available recipes:
  • High Prairie with Bison in Gravy
  • Pacific Stream with Salmon in Gravy
  • Sierra Mountain with Lamb in Gravy
  • Southwest Canyon Stew
  • Wetlands Canine with Fowl in Gravy

After much deliberation, I decided we would try the Pacific Steam recipe. It must have smelled a little different than their usual mix-ins because as soon as I opened the can, they all lined up with their curious ears and watched as I scooped some into their bowls.

They really loved the salmon in gravy, and gobbled it all up with tails wagging away. As soon as they were done eating dinner, all three began making their way to each other's empty bowls, making sure no one left a morsel or tasty lick of gravy behind.

I love that salmon is the first ingredient, as it provides a great source of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. The recipe also contains smoked salmon, ocean fish, potatoes, sweet potatoes, peas, blueberries, and raspberries - which evidentially makes for a great recipe according to my three drooling taste testers!

We tried the same food this month and we loved it. Fish is one of our favorites and the big chunks are delicious.
