Leaning to The Left

OK, I'm almost embarrassed to admit it, but yes... my hometown is Gloucester, MA. The Cape Ann town (an island really, connected to "mainland" by only 2 bridges) that is famous for this (these too) and this and even some Whoppi. Gloucester is where I was born, raised and lived until moving to NH 7 years ago. This Gloucester... the one that's all over the news today... the butt of late night jokes... even in Time. Now, just what the hell are these kids thinking? I know there's not always a lot to do on "the island," but come on now... and um... parents, where are you??? I digress...

Yesterday I learned that my Dad's cancer is squamous cell carcinoma, the second most common form of skin cancer. I'm still awaiting some clarification from Mom on this, since she was previously told "Head & Neck Cancer" until I forced her to push for an actual name. He had the infected tonsil removed last week and will begin radiation treatments on his neck July 6. UPDATED 7/9/08 - leave it to me googling to get the information wrong. While this is the 2nd most common form of skin cancer, it is also the name used for the most common form of head & neck cancer, which is what my Dad has.

Later yesterday, I learned that my very dear friend Chan lost Pop. She and I have made a pact... Chan will keep leaning to the right and I'll lean left, that way we can continue to help keep each other afloat....

On another note, remember the nesting Mama from this post? I'm happy to report that I spyed some hungy little babies last week in the nest...

It's been a long week and I don't think I've been happier to say this... TGIF! I need a break!

Um, yeah.. that Gloucester thing.. My husband pointed it out last night and I literally got out of bed to go read about it online.. WTF!!!!

Gloucester is otherwise a lovely place... I love the Back Shore, or going to the Breakers in Rockport next door...

Ugh. Those girls obviously fell out of the stupid tree and hit one too many branches on the way down. Pregnancy is hard and being a mother is even harder. Well, they'll find out soon enough. Whatever happened to going out and getting your bellybutton pierced with a group of girlfriends? Geez.

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's cancer. I'll be keeping him in my prayers. ((hugs))

I remember being bored in high school and just sitting in front of the TV. Going out on cabbage night with some rotten tomatoes for some real hard core mischief.

My son is just now turning 14. I think that I am going to find a way to invent a chastity belt for boys.. has that already been done?

Did I miss the boat on that one..

I know that my son is just so new to all of this.. he just doesn't know anything about anything... this is his first go-round...

I'm on the look out... Kayce

Hi Nichole. I was so sorry to ready about your Dad. That type of cancer (and several others) has been in my family as well. However, I'm happy to report all went well. Best wishes to all.
I, too, am an avid animal lover. I have rescued 9 cats, and currently have 6 (4 outside, 2 in) and also am in love with my little girl, Eva......a toy poodle, also rescued!
Again, best wishes for your family.
