Happy National Puppy Day

Apparently, it's National Puppy Day.  Good Morning America told us... and so did a gazillion Facebook posts.  In honor of this fun day, let's go back in time a little...

Zeus was just 7 weeks old when he came to us.... then he grew like a weed!

Lola was 4 months old when we adopted our "little" bundle of joy.  She and Zeus were inseparable since day one.

Teutul also came to us at 4 months of age, and quickly settled in with his older brother and sister.  He was our first failed foster.

Sophie was 10 months old when she moved in on, what was to be, a temporary basis.  An extremely shy little girl, she was not a match for most of those adoption applications and after a month, it started to become apparent she might not leave. After two months, it was official, Sophie chose to stay with us.

Oh how I wish I could turn back the hands of time.  Our hearts ache without Lola's smiling face around.  Our house is so incredibly quiet, and we know the time is coming near that it will become even quieter as we prepare to say goodbye to Zeus.  Why is it that the sweetest creatures on earth, with the biggest hearts and best personalities, have such incredibly short lives?  It's not fair.  Hug your puppies today - whether they are 2 months, 2 years, or 15 years.

Puppies are wonderful. After Leo's passing, I couldn't begin to think of another. Almost a year later, with Jax in the house we are loving all the chaos of two doodles again. I still cry for Leo, but then I'm licked till I laugh from Harley and Jax.

I said almost the same thing on my blog! Never take your pet for granted even one day, the time just flies too fast. So sorry for your loss and prayers for Zeus. Love Dolly

They're always puppies to me. Love your foster fails. I think that would happen to me, too. They grow up and are gone too fast.

You are so right, it is NOT fair that the best, sweetest creatures of all must leave us so soon. You have a beautiful doggie family, I love that you are a "foster failure", it's the best kind of failure, isn't it?

It's hard to remember that Sophie was once a brown dog. I've emailed Jeff to buy Tank a treat for Puppy Day. I'm proud that I gave him his first ever rawhide bone, even if it was a week early for Puppy Day.
