We posted about My Dog Is Cool last year and were sadly just reminded of how much we need to continue spreading the word. Our local news is reporting two dogs died during this heat wave after being left in the car by their owner. My first reaction is extreme anger and wishing for "an eye for an eye" - someone lock up that owner in the same hot car please. My second reaction is extreme sadness... can you even imagine what a painful death that was for those babies? It is terrible when people continue to not surprise me by their ignorance and stupidity. Very sad...I've been driving around with a stash of these flyers in my glove box for over a year, and I'm not afraid to leave one when necessary. I've been known to go into stores to have owners paged, and to call the police when that doesn't work. Fortunately, those are the only steps I've been forced to take thus far... but I always have my eyes and ears open for furbabies in trouble this time of year.
Please... continue to spread the word and keep furbabies safe during the summer.

I've called store managers too. Even my kids will look around to find the vehicle owner. "Mommy, those are bad dog people" Yes, there are. I don't know why people don't think.
We had to call police last summer when a dog in a car was in distress in a parking lot. I'm tempted to break the windows, which is what the police did, and take the dog. People like that don't deserve a dog.
It's just wrong to leave the dog or cat in the car. We took our first mastiff to Sunday Brunch every week at a charming old restaurant, and the kitchen staff always took him out of the car, fed him, gave him water and played with him. I'm pretty sure Sarge thought they put up with us at that restaurant because they wanted to see him! His friendship with the kitchen staff also gave us the only shade in the durn place for our car, which we thought was an extra bonus!
