REVIEW: Namaste Bags part 2

Namaste Bags
Where To Find:

Namaste_ohsnapPouch

Namaste has released some wonderfully chic and functional new products this fall, including Oh Snap! and Mini Cozy. Having become a fan of Namaste products earlier this year (Namaste review, July 2008), I was very excited to review these new items.

Oh Snap! is a set of three mesh pouches, complete with Namaste snaps, to blissfully organize all of your crafty notions and bring the Zen back to your life. Oh Snap! pouches come in just one color, charcoal gray (which coordinates nicely with all of the Cali Collection bag colors), and three sizes: baby is 6.5" x 1" x 4", momma is 9" x 1.25" x 7" and granddaddy is a whopping 10" x 2" x 8" (big enough to handle a small project). The pouches are wonderful and the mesh makes it a snap to see what is in each bag and quickly find what you need. Knitting is supposed to be fun, so make your organization effortless and a no-brainer snap with Oh Snap!

Mini Cozy is a smaller version of the original Cozy - and in my opinion, a tun more useful! It is the perfect size for DPNs and/or crochet hooks and can easily be used to take them with you on the go, tossing in your knitting bag, or as storage at home. As with the original Cozy, it reminds me a bit of a ladies' cigarette case from the 1950's... sophisticated, yet functional. Mini Cozy comes in most of the Cali Collection colors; Charcoal, Hollywood Pink, Lime, Olive, Peacock, Saddle and Turquoise and measures 2 3/4" x 8.5" x 1/4".

Not new to the Namaste fall/winter collection, but new to my collection is the Newport bag. I have been carrying the Newport in Saddle as my everyday bag this past fall and absolutely adore it. I also waited this long to review it so that I could have a very tried-and-true review for you.

I can't even beging to say enough about the functionality and design of this bag. My other half even commented on how cool looking Newport was, and I'm sure most of you will agree, to have your guy comment on your bag sure speaks volumes about it! Newport is a perfect size for my everyday use, especially back and forth to the office. There is a full length zippered pouch in the middle of Newport which basically seperates the bag into two large compartments. On one side I have a small handbag which houses my wallet, keys and essentials and can be easily removed to run into a store or someplace I don't want (or need) everything else -- and I'm finding this system is just perfect! There are two small side pokcets on that side as well - one fit for a cell phone and the other for easy to grab items (i.e. business cards, a pen, keys, etc). On the other large side I always have a small project bag (right now its my alpaca shaped scarf), my day planner book and any paper items I'm carrying around (Newport easily holds file folders, magazines, etc). As you can see in the picture above, I also tote around several other things... cough drops, gloves, sunglasses, lip balm, tissues, etc. It all fits nicely - and the sleek design and solid structure are perfect for my everyday needs!

Newport comes in six Cali Collection colors; Charcoal, Hollywood Pink, Olive, Peacock, Saddle and Turquoise. There are five metal feet on the flat bottom and strong magnetic closures at the top. Newport measures in at a nice 7" x 11" x 15" with a handle drop length of 10.5".

Whether your looking to spoil yourself or someone on your holiday list this year, Namaste has several wonderful options!

Caffeinated, Spoiled... and a bit short?

I have been both! My spoiler for this Amazing Autumn Coffee Swap was Chan, which was by no means a surprise to me as we had asked to spoil each other in this round.

The amazing package arrived on Thursday, but I was late getting home that evening as I had a work industry banquet to attend. Which meant that after feeding the dogs, doing birthday gifts with Matt and getting situated, I finally got to open this right before bed... (side note, I made all of these pics public so you can click on them to enlarge if you'd like)

CoffeeSwapbox_1208

I can't believe there aren't any doggie noses in that pic as Lola and Teutul were both stuck to me like glue all the while I was opening. Yes, there was something in there for them, but more so I think they could smell Chan's girls and were very intrigued! Anywho, the box above turned in to all this wonderfulness...

CoffeeSwapbox_1208b

Chan sure knows how to spoil me! She sent me 2 coffees, a local favorite of mine (New England Coffee in the blueberry flavor) and a local coffee to her (The Righteous Bean in a breakfast blend), as well as coffee candies. There were four chocolate bars of various kinds, Ice Breakers in the pomegrante flavor I love and NutriDent treats for the kids in a convenient 4 pack! There were coffee "things" - a kitchen towel and pot holder, as well as a coffee brush to use for getting the ground coffee out of your grinder. I'd never seen one of these before and can assure you that Matt will much appreciate me using this as opposed to my finger from now on! There were useful "things" - a cute pack of Christmas theme doggy tissues (so cute I almost can't blow my snot on them) and a pair of Bryspun Rosewood needles which I just adore and can't wait to use (they are soooooooooooo smooth)!!! Chan even found the coolest knitting themed mug at Starbucks! I'm not sure how I hadn't seen this all over blogland yet, but how cool is this mug??!! I heart it!

CoffeeSwapbox_1208mug

Yarn... like the coffee, I wasn't spoiled with just one, but two! A skein of mmmm Malabrigo Sock yarn (which I've been dying to try) and a skein of Creatively Dyed Beaches in a beautiful blue/red/purple colorway. I just adore these both and can't wait to have time to knit for me with them!

There was a handmade item requirement to this swap and Chan not only knit me something very relevant (dog paws!) but she designed it as well!

CoffeeSwapbox_1208c

How cool??!! Its a dog paw book mark (I just have to go get that spray starch... which I was at Target today and totally forgot... sorry Chan!) that I absolutely love and will use a tun! She also sent me a stitch saver keyring (which I'd been whining about needing) that she ordered and had personalized just for muah. So cool... and no one can steal it at knitting night!!!! Well, unless their name is Nic.... Chan also made the adorable notecard you see in the above photo - she truly is multi talented!

Thank you Chan... I absolutely LOVE it all and

it was a perfect swap box!

As previously mentioned, I had a work industry banquet on Thursday night. I served as Events & Education Chair for 2008 and had the stressful pleasure of planning the event... and am quite pleased that it went well, if I do say so myself. We hired a comedian this year... Frank Santorelli, who has done stand-up on all the late night shows, as well as done some acting (Georgie the bartender on The Sopranos... a delivery guy in How I Met The Parents... etc.). He was super nice... and big. Jane and I got our pic with him...

I look weird (like those half closed "drunk" eyes - but I wasn't, I swear!)... but we all kinda have weird looks... however no one looks short but me...

Look Who's 2!

Happy Birthday to the Princess!

Sophie_cute_72108

Sophie is 2 years old today! Its been a wonderful year with lots of learning experiences and the little girl has really come a long, long way. She's still quite shy with strangers, but she's certainly come in to her own and out of her shell...

Goodbye Willy, Hello Kenzie

Yesterday was a busy day! We had some birthdays and even a new birth ~ congrats to Nate & Kerri who welcomed baby Kenzie into this world yesterday morning!

I had a work industry banquet event, which I, as Education & Events Chair, had the stressful pleasure of planning ... and today is my big relief after a night that went quite well if I do say so myself...

On a sad note, yesterday's birthdays included my dear friend Jada's little man Willy, whom she describes as the most loyal man in her life. Unfortunately, sweet Willy left us for the Rainbow Bridge on the morning of his 11th birthday after suffering from congestive heart failure. He will be missed by all, especially his Mom and his human sister Natalie...

Willy

We will all miss you dearly Willy. It won't be the same visiting again, not having you there to climb up on my lap and fall asleep, but I'm glad to know that you are no longer suffering. Here we are with little Willy and Nat from a visit a few years back...

MattNic_WillyNat

Now if you're local... don't miss Christmas At The Garden! The annual Christmas Fair at A Knitter's Garden is this Saturday & Sunday from 10am - 4pm. Stop by for a cup of mulled cider and some cookies... and get a jump on your holiday shopping with many handknit items, handmade jewelry and more (not to mention all those great yarns for the items on your to knit list!). Joanne will be waiting...

I'll leave you with a little Friday Fill-In...

1. Snow is best enjoyed when you can stay at home and not have to head out on the roads.

2. I'm looking forward to a few extra days off over Christmas & New Year's.

3. Facebook is the best catching-up-with-people-you-haven't-heard-from-in-15-years tool ever!

4. One of my favorite old tv shows is The Nanny.

5. I'm done with being Events & Education Chair for the AANH... I've "retired" so to speak.

6. The most enjoyable thing around the holidays is time with the people you love.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to watching Ghost Whisperer, tomorrow my plans include going to see How The Grinch Stole Christmas broadway show in Boston and Sunday, I want to head down to A Knitter's Garden for the holiday fair!

Felting In A Winter Wonderland

First of all, let me say... December already??!! WTH??

Now, with that said... Remember the couple of felted bags I tried to pass off as finished objects here? Well, now they're officially finished!

Here's the nearly-year-long Booga bag...

Booga2_felted Booga2_feltedC

After felting this bag, I've come to decide that Nuro Kureyon really isn't all that its cracked up to be. Some of the colorways may be fantastic, but I recall at least three times setting this project aside due to my dry skin not liking it slide across my fingers... and it just does not felt all that well!

A yarn that felts fantastically??? Patons Classic Wool! This stuff felts fast and well (read - these little buggers truly stand up on their own!)! I'll definitely use it for more felted projects in the future. Here are the mini felted totes #3 & #4 (and I'll get another from what's still left of the second skein).

PatonsTote_feltedC PatonsTote_feltedB

Back to not-so-great felting. Here's the mini felted tote in SWS. I absolutley loved this tote... that is, before it was felted. I even went out and bought some more of this colorway... since this was going to go in my Amazing Autumn Coffee Swap box and I needed to make another for me... until this happened.

SWStote_felted

SWStote_feltedB

Sorry Chan (don't get too excited... Chan & I actually asked to spoil each other in the coffee swap, so we already know), but I just didn't like it so much after felting! The yarn felted some... and fuzzed a tun. It was soooooo much prettier in the pre-felting stages, see?

SWStote_unFelted

On that note, I did felt a little something else for Chan but since she won't receive it until tomorrow or Thursday, I'll leave it off the blog for now.

Public Service Announcement...... ISE 7 (International Scarf Exchange) sign ups are slow and they have extended the deadline. Hope on over here for more information. Sign ups are open until they reach 100 or until Monday, Dec 8th. Don't miss out! ISE 6 was my first experience and it was so much fun - I can't wait for this round.
