Back to school time can be an adjustment for everyone in your family - including the furkids. Is your dog ready?
Penny sure is.
We wanted to share some tips to help avoid boredom when the human kids return to school, as well as some for those of us who don't have tiny humans, but still want our dogs to be well-behaved during this time.

National Train Your Dog Month
Did You Know...
Don't worry if you had no idea. Neither did I until I researched some creative content ideas.
Penny is the first dog I have done organized training with and I have to say, I love it - and so does she! I think it's even safe to say that we're both a little addicted.
Penny graduated from Puppy Class at Petco in August...
We enrolled her for the socialization while we waited for our planned Basic Obedience class to start at another facility. I was a little disappointed that there was only one other puppy in her class, but Penny had a blast... and she showed us all just how much of a smarty-pants she was.

We Have a Graduate
Okay, seriously... was I not just typing "Monday already?" and writing all about our little sprouting-faster-than-a-beanstock Penny?!?! Where in the world did the past week go?
It was another busy week at the Lapdog house. The girls took a quick trip to the v-e-t on Tuesday. Sophie had blood drawn to test her thyroid (test came back normal, and she has lost 1 pound since January) and Penny went along for a weigh-in. My bean sprout gained another 3 1/2 pounds in 3 weeks, weighing in at 29.7 pounds.
The humans seemed to have something going on every evening for the rest of the week, but the only thing the Lapdogs seemed to care about was the treats they brought home from their meeting with a new race car sponsor on Wednesday. The sponsor is right up our alley with their love of dogs, including their own beautiful pittie mascot, Honey. If you find yourself in the Southern New Hampshire area, be sure to check out Lazy Dog Beer Shoppe.
Now for the most important news from our weekend -- insert drumroll here -- Penny is a puppy training graduate!
She and her buddy Patches graduated from Puppy 2 at Petco yesterday (no, you didn't miss a thing - Penny never took Puppy 1, as when we signed up the trainer said Puppy 2 was a good fit due to her age, and the only thing she missed was the extra playtime). Silly me forgot to snap photos during class and by the time I remembered, Patches had already left.
Penny received her certificate, along with a big bag of treats from her trainer.
As I mentioned a couple weeks ago, I believe we're going to move to a different training facility for Basic Obedience (we have a tour appointment there next week). It's not that we didn't enjoy our time at Petco - the trainer was energetic & friendly and Penny loves playing with Patches - but it seems to make sense financially to take this class, which is longer and includes some intermediate training, as well as the Canine Good Citizen test. So, I guess we'll just have to pop over to Petco so Penny can visit every now and then.
We'll leave you with Lazy Dog's new logo, just because I absolutely love it... and can't wait to see it on the back of our race cars!
