Wordless Wednesday + Teutul Update

Happy rainy Hump Day.  Before we get wordless, I wanted to give a quick update on Tut.  He's had some more vomiting, still refuses to eat kibble, and just seems to be a little off.  Although you certainly wouldn't know it from this photo taken of him at the v-e-t just a couple hours ago.

Yes, we returned to the vet's office this morning and had to see yet another doctor, as both Dr. C and the vet we saw on Monday were off (and I show up with the happy, smiling "sick" dog). Fortunately, my vet's office has several great ladies who work there! Dr. B said they've been seeing a lot of GI issues lately and isn't quite sure if it's attributed to weather/allergies or what. She suggested we start with doing some blood work (including adding on the pancreatic test) and giving him subcutaneous fluids. While Tut seemed well hydrated on the outside, she suspected he likely had subclinical dehydration. My boy also got a famotidine injection and was sent home with an antibiotic. We'll be giving him FortiFlora once a day as well (which is rather perfect timing, as we're teaming up with our friends at Chewy to tell you more about this great probiotic in the month of October!). Fingers crossed the fluids do the trick of jump starting his GI track back to normal. Continued Power of the Paw requests, please...

And now, let's get wordless!

Happy National Coffee Day + Power of the Paw Request

Excuse our fly-by post today, but Tut is feeling under the weather and Mama literally has 101 things going on this week (you know what they say, when it rains, it pours).

Tut began shaking his ears on Saturday and upon inspection, both were full of icky goop.  Sophie is our usual ear-issue dog, so fortunately we have a nice prescription cleaner on hand which I used to clean his ears a few times over the weekend.  Yesterday morning it was clear they were still bothering him, so it was off to the vet last night (unfortunately Dr. C was on vacation, but we saw another great staff vet).  Turns out my boy has bacterial infections in both ears and I can only imagine how long this has been going on without him letting us know.

IMG_20150928_172039

On top of this, Tut had vomited on Saturday afternoon and has since been very skeptical about eating his usual kibble (Taste of the Wild, fish variety).  It's not like him to refuse any food (even when sick), so this was extremely odd.  But the vet didn't see any issues with his teeth and overall appearance, and since he had only vomited once, we decided to start treating his ear infections and see if he began to accept his usual food again.

Last night I tried soaking his kibble, and did something I really should not have.  I added in a couple packets of a dehydrated food we had on hand, some of our usual canned mix-in, and some of Sophie's kibble to see if that enticed Tut.  He ate quite a bit of it, but did his best to leave behind the kibble.  Then... he vomited this morning.

I'm really hoping this time was my fault for throwing everything but the kitchen sink at him.  Boiled hamburger and rice will be on the menu tonight, and I have a call into the vet to see what her recommendation is.  I suspect we'll give it another day to wait and see, unless he obviously gets worse tonight.  I'm a bit fearful there may be an issue with his kibble, as they have had a recall in the past.  And, a local friend just informed me there is a dog virus going around our area.  Fantastic...

So, we could really use some Power of the Paw today in hopes that the vomiting ceases and there's nothing major going on.  And that his ear infections clear up fast because he really hates the ear medicine and cleaner.

And, we wish everyone a Happy National Coffee Day!  I don't know about you, but I can't make it through my day without it.

Doggy Daze at the Corn Maze

We are so happy that fall has finally arrived.  The cooler temperatures mean we can get outside and go on fun adventures... without the fear of melting. Plus, when you live in New England, there is always something fun happening this time of year. In fact, there is so much going on that we just can't get to it all. It seems as though every time we decide to do something, three more super fun things pop up on the same day. Plus, the Lapdogs' Daddy still has couple of race weekends left which immediately wipe out some of the coolest stuff... hmprf.

20150913_171149

But have no fear, I'm making sure we "get our fall on" as much as possible this year! After all, there's nothing like having a new puppy to experience all the joys of my favorite time of year for the first time.

20150913_154231 20150913_154244

The corn mazes have been opening up all around us these past couple of weeks, and thanks to a fabulous local fall event Facebook group, I noticed one of them does "Doggy Maze Days" for their opening weekend. I immediately thought, "how cool!?" and knew Penny would have a blast.

20150913_160836 20150913_155917

We ended up going on Sunday, since that racing thing had us busy on Saturday.  As luck would have it, that meant Saturday was the beautiful blue skies day of the weekend and Sunday was the rainy day.  By the time we got to the farm, the doggy vendors had already had enough of the rain and decided to pack up.  So we missed out on all the cool stuff they had going on for dogs to do/sample (shhh, don't tell Penny they had free ice cream), but we still had a blast going through the corn maze.

Here's a quick video clip...

VID_115830516_230544

I left a wet, muddy mess with crazy rain hair, but didn't care.  We had so much fun and Penny was the ultimate explorer.  Except for the two bridges in the maze. My little girl refused to climb up the stairs, but happily romped down the other side.  I'm not sure what it is, as we have stairs at home, but this is the second place we've gone where she doesn't want to go up the stairs.  (Since the other place is her new training facility, we'll certainly be working on that over the next 12 weeks)

20150913_155351 20150913_154816

We spent over two hours at the farm, going through the maze and then the little farm store. To say Penny was a happy pup is an understatement.

20150913_170802 20150913_170952

I wish more farms opened up their corn mazes for our fur-kids (I found one other, but it was about 3 hours away in Western Massachusetts on a race weekend).  We'll definitely be going back for "Doggy Maze Days" again next year!

And while I may be a little bias, is there anything cuter than a puppy in a pumpkin patch?

Black & White Sunday: Apple or Avacado?

Happy first Sunday of Fall!  Are you as excited as we are?

Teutul wants to know, how do you like your apples?

2015-09-15_08-49-38

Sophie was wondering if you learned anything about #AvoDermNatural Rotational Menu on Tuesday? While she won't be the one taking the 6 week challenge (that will be Teutul), she thought she should check out these avocado things anyway.

Penny is concerned that you might have missed her their review of Blue Boo Bars.  They were so good that she forgot Mommy stuck this silly hat on her head...

REVIEW: Blue Boo Bars

Disclosure: Chewy sent a bog of Blue Boo Bars to Lapdog Creations, free of charge, for review purposes. I was not compensated for this review and all opinions expressed are my own.

Blue Boo Bars

Where to Find: Chewy.com

The Lapdogs were very excited when their friends at Chewy gave them the opportunity to try Blue Boo Bars this month, but their Mama just might have been even more excited...

2015-09-16_05-16-26

Before we tell you just how awesome they are, we must warn you - Blue Boo Bars are only available for a limited time, so don't wait too long. You can order a bag (or two) from Chewy today... that is, if my smarty-pants little witch hasn't learned how to use the computer yet and placed an order for all they have left.

2015-09-16_05-55-37

Blue Boo Bars are all natural, oven-baked biscuits created by Blue Buffalo so that our fur-kids can enjoy a delicious treat for Halloween. After all, not all dogs love being dressed up as little devils, witches and pumpkins, but all dogs do love tasty treats. And now all the crazy dog parents out there - :::raising my own hand::: - can reward our patient fur-babies with something extra special.

The first thing you'll notice when you tear open the Blue Boo Bars package is the amazing smell of pumpkin and cinnamon combining to create an aroma that is distinctly fall. The next thing you'll notice is the adorable pumpkin shape stamped into each crunchy little treat.

2015-09-16_05-28-37 2015-09-16_05-29-01

The scrumptious treats are on the smaller side, making them perfect for most all dogs... even if Sophie does think she should get two at a time.  For the teeny-tiny tots, they can be broken into even smaller bites.

Made in the USA, Blue Boo Bars feature some of nature's most delicious and nutritious ingredients including pumpkin, oatmeal, barley, carrots, cinnamon, and flaxseed.  The tasty little bites are corn, wheat and soy free.  Additionally, Blue Boo Bars have no chicken or poultry by-product meals, making them a nice option for many dogs with food allergies and sensitivities.

2015-09-16_05-29-39 2015-09-16_05-27-40

The Lapdogs give Blue Boo Bars their official seal of approval, as does their Mama.  The only thing we can possible find fault in is that they will be flying off the shelves in the blink of Frankenstein's eye.  We just might have to stock up on them, as I do with my pumpkin spiced coffee creamer (okay, okay... as I do with all things pumpkin spiced).

Now we're left wondering if Blue will be producing special, limited edition holiday treats... hmmm.  After all, not all dogs love having antlers or Santa hats tossed on their heads.

2015-09-16_05-25-04  2015-09-16_05-28-07

You can grab a bag of Blue Boo Bars while they last over at Chewy, where 1-2 day shipping is always free on orders of $49 or more.  According to Teutul's math, that means you should grab 9 bags.
