Spring Flingin ~ Week 1

More like friggin Spring, as we saw snowflakes again today... which has turned to a cold, icky rain. But alas, I'll think spring as we discuss the Week 1 Spring Fling Coffee Swap topic...

This week's topic is:
Browse around some of the other blogs of participants, and find one person who enjoys a similar roast coffee to you - share something interesting about them that you find on THEIR blog, and tell us what you've been working on knitting or crochet-wise this week!

Well, I found out that
Rosemary is a girl after my own heart with her love of a light, fresh roast and flavored coffees! We also share a dislike for chocolate raspberry flavored creamers... how funny! I learned that she's a Queens girl who recently was forced to tip some guy in a red suit met Elmo at Radio City. I also learned she's a fellow Vickie Howell fan. Speaking of Vickie, I won a contest she was affiliated with for an issue of the new Make It Mine magazine! And not only did I win, but Vickie spelled my name right on her blog too! Woo hoo!

This week I've been working on Clappy for the KAL and Bella's bunny....

Spring Snow Brings?

Ok, so if April Showers bring May Flowes... just what the frig does snow on March 28 bring?!?!?! This is what I saw when I opened up the door to let the furbabies out before I left for work...

Snow 32808

Snow 32808b

It might look pretty to all you foolish folk people whining about not getting enough snow this winter, but for us New England folk, we've had enough!! Think spring is here? Yeah sure.. spring my arse! Of course, the dogs were loving it though...

Lola was zipping around (click links for more snowy fun pics) and finding fun, stinky spots to dig in...

Lola_snow32808 Lola_snow32808b

Teutul was a zip-a-dee-doo-dah,
zipping fool this morning!

Zeus was happy as a clam...
Zeus_snow32808

Sophie, my newest birdie chaser, was having a blast chasing the wondering if they flew North for spring much too early birds...

Sophie_snow32808c Sophie_snow32808

She certainly has some hunting hound in her ... I'm starting to lean towards part bloodhound with her wrinkly skin around the neck/face area! Her newest fascination is chasing those birdies all around... this one dared to land on the ground while she wasn't looking!

Snow 32808 Bird

Oh yeah and that *#(&%@(&%&)^#% oh-so-wonderful-town that we pay out the arse excessive amounts of hard earned money to... well, they failed to even send out one darn plow this morning, leaving for about 4 - 5 inches of heavy, wet, mucky, icky, slushy snowy mess on the roads. It took me about three times as long to get to work... TGIF! Stay tuned for finally! stuff to be added to my Etsy shop over the weekend!

Somebody's Watching You...

For those of us who often feel like some idiot big brother is watching over us (ever see the cursor arrow on your screen start moving around on its own? I do!)... YES, somebody is watching you! It just might be Teutul... (as always, click links for more pics)

Tut_closeup_32308

That's been one of his favorite poses for the camera lately. Well, when he's not being sat on by big sis Lola...

TutLola_31608b

The girls have been hanging out a bunch lately... romping, wrestling, curling up together... they truly show sisterly love at its best!

Zeus is still recovering from his drunken martini incident, however we're happy to report that the big guy got his check up at the vet last week and is down to a whopping 112 pounds! Down to 112 from 146 just four years ago! Yes! and without any diet plan! I think it has to do with him being more active now that he's got his superman knee (he's much more playful... romping, chasing & jumping... than he had been for years) and also since we've switched to a much higher quality dog kibble (less crappy filler "food" and more real, actual good for you food). The vet is extremely happy with his slim, trim bod - she'd been wanting us to get extra weight off him to help those knees. In fact, she seems to think we might be able to get away with not having the second TPLO surgery. We're going to send him in for xrays in the next month or so to have it checked to see if the arthritis is getting any worse or not and see what the surgeon thinks... I think Zeus would be happy not to have to undergo a second surgery... I caught him giving me a "NO towel sling please!" look...

Not to take attention away from the furbaby children on their Doggy Thursday, but the radio station that I listen to all day at work is doing their annual "Mix Cares For Kids" radiothon for the Children's Hospital Boston today. If you can, please take a moment to read about it and maybe make a donation. This is one of the top children's hospitals in the world and they are known for never, ever turning anyone away... no matter their financial situation.

OK, back to the fluffy cuteness... enjoy the rest of your day!

Yumm... ice cream bowls!

I Wear Blue For MY Mom

Many of you know that my Mom is currently going thru treatment for Colon Cancer and I thank everyone for their continued well wishes & support. (if you'd like to read more about her battle, please scroll back thru the "Mom" label on my posts) I am embarraseed to admit just realized that March is National Colorectal Awareness Month. Please take just a moment of your time to learn about Colon Cancer - there's an easy to read fact sheet here.

Here are some other helpful links...

You can order Awareness Bracelets here.

I ordered a bunch of wonderful stuff - at great prices! - from the Choose Hope site. They have some wonderful awareness items for all forms of cancer, including a fun "Cancer Sucks" line (which I got my Mom a sweatshirt that she absolutely loves!).

The 4th Annual "Scope It Out 5K" Run/Walk for colorectal cancer awareness will be held this Sunday, March 30, 2008, at 8am in West Potomac Park, Washington, D.C. For those interested, you can make an online donation here.

Read more about colon cancer, symptoms & prevention here at the Mayo Clinic site.

Mundane Monday

Where or where did the friggin short, not enough time in the day weekend go??? I can't believe its Monday already... ugh.

I spent Saturday watching Scott win the race and working on some more stitch markers, including sets for Chan's blogiversary contest, my DOT Spring Swap pal, my Mom and even a couple sets for little ole me! Yes, I can finally use my own creations now. I made matching Colon Cancer Awareness sets for Mom & I using dark blue awareness ribbons & swarovski crystals. I really love the way they turned out... hope she likes her set! I also made myself a set of purple paw print markers (purple is the awareness color for animal abuse - you can check out many great "purple paw" items here). After I completed the gift sets, I went on to work up some that should wind up in my Etsy shop within the next couple of days, so keep an eye out if you're interested.

Since I neglected Clapotis all week, I devoted yesterday's crafty time to it....

Clappy_32308b

I'm pretty doubtful not sure of making the March 31 deadline for the KAL, but I'm chugging along. I'm on skein #3 of yarn and have dropped 3 stitches thusfar...

Clappy_32308

While I knit away yesterday, Matt piped up and asked what I was making. When I showed him the pictures on the pattern he asked if I was going to have to block it.... I was impressed! I think he may've been asking (in a typical manly fashion) when the heck I was finally going to use that monstrous blocking board that we lugged home from Webs last year... but hey, he at least acted interested and he's got the lingo down, right? The dogs, on the other hand, were much less interested...

I can't not post this one too... 3 dogs took over the couch for much of the lazy afternoon at our house (please excuse the mess of hodge-podge blankets and pillows... if you have dogs, you understand, I'm sure). Notice the girls got the pillows on either end and the boy is stuck in the middle...

Scott Rocked Nashville!!!

Most of you know I'm a NASCAR fan... most of you know I'm a Tony Stewart (he's usually in the news for doing something controversial easy to blog about) & Ryan Newman fan, but you may not know that I'm also a huge fan of Scott Wimmer! Well... Scott won today in the Busch Nationwide Series race at Nashville -- his first win since 2003!!!! I think I had something to do with it ... well okay, maybe not really, but I was wearing my Scott Wimmer fan club t-shirt today (under my "Owner of a Rescued Dog" sweatshirt, but that's not important..) and I think this is actually the first time I have worn this shirt! Coincedence?!?! Good luck charm??? hmmm...

Way to go Scott!
wimmer_wins_32208 wimmer_WIN_32208

While watching the race, I made good use of my time by knitting on Clapotis making more stitch markers, which will soon be available in my Etsy shop! These are the ones I was finishing as Scott took the checkers ...

A very fruitful day for all...

Spring? Not so much...

Happy Furbaby Day! I'd say Happy 1st Day of Spring, but it still doesn't feel like spring around here... its cold & rainy today. pptthh to that.

The Carrie show last night was awesome! We had a 5 minute count down before she rose up from beneath the stage...

124 CarrieStage

Carrie sounds just as amazing live as she is recorded... and she may have broken a nail and a string, but she's trying her hand at some guitar strumming now too!

carrieGuitar CarrieCheats

The girl rocked the mile high stilettos too! I have no idea how she walked, ran and danced around stage in those things... I couldn't even make it across my living room floor without looking like the clumsy clutz that I am breaking my neck...

CarrieSing CarrieTalk

We had great seats, even though the camera phone pics don't show that (I took most of my pics off the big screen for a more close up effect). The girl in front of me had a camera phone that managed to zoom in completely on Carrie for some awesome pictures. I thought my phone was pretty up to date (its a
Chocolate) with a 1.3 mega pixel camera built in, but damn, I'm once again behind the technology every teenager is toting these days! Anyway, it wasn't until Carrie came back on stage for her encore, announcing that she was going to do one of her all time favorite songs and broke in to an awesome version of Guns 'n Roses November Rain that went straight in to the rocking cover of their Paradise City that I had the ah-ha moment and remembered that we saw heard Carrie live once before... in Charlotte at The Coca Cola 600 prerace concert (we were on the other side of the track, hence we heard and did not actually see her). She covered Paradise City back then too ... or maybe it was Sweet Child of Mine because I know I've seen her do that too. Either way, it proves my point that she's really a rock chick underneath all that country! (note, borrowing video from YouTube, as some people obviously have those better cell phones than I do too... my sound is crap compared to these)

My only disappointment from the show? I was so hoping she'd have a "The More Boys I Meet... The More I Love My Dog" t-shirt! But no... nothing!! If anyone in Carrie's camp is reading, just think of the marketing potential here people! I'd buy several myself and I'm sure my fellow Dogs on Thursday peeps would be right there behind me!

With that, I'll leave you with the doggy photos. This was Zeus belated birthday olive from Kathy....

Just as I was snapping a photo of Zeus with his present, Sophie (as always, click on their linked names for more new pics!) came out of nowhere and snatched it! Yes, she thinks its for her and its become her new favorite toy this week!
