The Honest Kitchen Ice Pups

The Honest Kitchen Ice Pups

Where to Find: Chewy.com

2015-01-29_08-47-52

As you may have guessed, we're going to be playing a little bit of catch up with reviews in the coming weeks.  First up is our January yum-yum from those awesome folks over at Chewy.com.

Having the winter blues and looking for some comfort, I chose The Honest Kitchen Ice Pups.  We were already familiar with some of the other items from The Honest Kitchen and are big fans.  When I read about Ice Pups, I knew we had to try them.

You're probably saying to yourself "Why the heck would she want her dogs to try something icy in the middle of winter?," right?  That's where the coolness (okay, pun intended) of this unique treat comes into play.  Ice Pups can be served three ways:
  1. In the spring/summer, serve as a refreshing, chilled beverage
  2. During those icky, sticky dog days of summer, freeze the liquid and create tasty ice cube treats for your pets
  3. In the winter, serve as a warm, soothing broth aka Steamy Pups
Obviously, we chose option #3 for this review.

The single serve packets are convenient and easy to use.  Simply empty into a mug...

2015-01-29_08-48-35

Add warm water and stir...

2015-01-29_08-50-05

The Lapdogs absolutely loved the tasty broth.  I wish I had actually gotten some photos of them licking it up... especially my sweet Lola, who couldn't get enough of the soothing broth.  This was her last review item and she did a stellar job!  Of course, that means we can't not give Ice Pups the Lapdogs' official 16 Paws Up seal of approval

2015-01-29_08-49-09

While the broth looks almost good enough for humans to enjoy, Ice Pups are for cats and dogs.  Which means this is a tasty option for mixed-furry-race households - both your cats and dogs can happily share together! Additionally, Ice Pups are ideal for all life stages.  Grain and gluten free, the formula is also good for those with sensitive stomachs.  What I love best, is it's made in a human food facility with 100% human-grade, recognizable ingredients: dehydrated chicken, turkey, whey, dandelion, asparagus, watercress, honey and parsley.

With the bitter cold temps still slamming the Northeast, as well as many other parts of the country, now is the time to order some Ice Pups for your pack!  With Chewy's free 1-2 day shipping on orders of $49 or more, you might as well stock up for the summer

Disclosure: Chewy.com sent a box of The Honest Kitchen Ice Pups to Lapdog Creations, free of charge for review purposes. I was not compensated for this review and all opinions expressed are my own.

REVIEW: goDog Toys

goDog Toys

Where to Find: goDog

2014-11-24_08-46-51

While you're busy checking your list (and checking it twice), don't forget all of the nice pups longing for toys this holiday season.  We recently received two from goDog that we'd like to tell you about...
2014-12-16_09-14-38

The Green & White Peppermint

2014-11-24_08-50-20

The Purple Clam
from the Shellfish Collection

Both toys feature the awesome Chew Guard Technology that goDog is known for.  In case you've been living under a rock, or uh-hum, a clam shell perhaps, Chew Guard Technology is a special manufacturing process that adds a super tough, durable liner to soft plush toys, making them strong enough to stand up to even the toughest play.  (The technology is also being used in their new line of dog beds)

2014-11-24_09-45-16
These are not the first goDog toys to enter the Lapdog household, so we can truly attest to the durability of the Chew Guard Technology.  Other plush toys have come and gone (some quicker than I can blurt out "Nooooo... don't unstuff it!"), but goDog toys stand the test of time, and four large Lapdogs... including a couple who enjoy the unstuffing process a little too much.  Serious kudos to whomever came up with this amazing technology... it works!

Sure, no toy is completely indestructible, but the bottom line is goDog toys are tough and they last much longer than most other toys.  They even offer a guarantee, via a one-time replacement if your goDog toy does not outlast a standard plush.

2014-12-16_09-15-39Both the Peppermint and Clam are being well-loved in our house, and that makes me smile.  My pack has two overflowing baskets full of toys, and as they age they're not quite as playful as they once were... but Mr. Clam and Minty (ok, so I'm not very original... pffst) are being played with or carried around on a daily basis.  That speaks volumes to me, and as a result Santa has purchased a couple of other goDog toys this year.

The squeaker in the Peppermint has bit the dust, but other than that, it's held up just fine.  Sophie is extra tough on squeakers and seems to have "killed" this one, but amazingly without putting any holes or tears in the toy itself.  Normally when she "kills" the squeaker, it's dissected from the toy at the same time.  I'll call this battle a tie - Sophie .5 / goDog .5 - and honestly, what's the problem with one less squeaker in the house?

2014-11-24_08-49-13The clam is still squeaking and holding strong.  As a native to a small fishing town in Massachusetts, I smile a little bit more about my pack playing with a clam.  The fact that it's purple, well that's even more reason to smile.

The Lapdogs give goDog toys their official 16 Paws Up Seal of Approval - and the humans toss in a couple of thumbs for good measure.  Forgo the $1 toy bin this year and get your dog a goDog plush toy for the holidays... neither of you will be disappointed!

REVIEW: Bravo Crunchy Delights

Bravo Crunchy Delights

Where to Find: Bravo Pet Foods

BravoTreats_9714

The Lapdogs recently had the opportunity to try Bravo Crunchy Delights and I think it's safe to say, they were delighted!

BravoTreats_ZeusTut_9714
Bravo Crunchy Delights are oven baked in the USA, using all natural ingredients.  Currently available in four flavors - Beef, Chicken, Duck and Turkey - they do not contain any added hormones, antibiotics, artificial preservatives, flavors or colors.  Each recipe includes a different mix of wholesome ingredients, such as oats, chickpeas, quinoa, broccoli, green beans, squash, cranberries, and cane molasses - but the #1 ingredient in each recipe is real, premium meat or poultry.  As a dog parent who pays very close attention to the labels on my furkids' treats, I can really appreciate this!

BravoTreats_Tut_9714b

We received a bag of the Turkey Crunchy Delights for review. Ingredients are turkey, oats, chickpeas, turkey liver, turkey hearts, broccoli, green beans, squash, turkey gizzards, quinoa, cane molasses, cranberries, salt, mixed tocopherols (preservative), and rosemary extract.  I think the Lapdogs thought someone took Thanksgiving and mixed it all up, into one delicious bite!  They gobbled them up and begged for more.

BravoTreats_Lola_9714crop

You may recognize Bravo as a leader in the fresh-frozen and raw pet foods.  The family-owned business located in Manchester, Connecticut offers over 125 different items for dogs and cats and is continually looking to expand it's line.  Crunchy Delights were a no-brainer addition.  According to Bravo co-founder Bette Schubert, "We set out to create super premium treats that are natural, nourishing and delicious.  We think that means using only the finest, freshest ingredients - starting with real meat or poultry.  And that's exactly what we did."  Indeed Bette, that is what Bravo did -- and bravo to you for doing so!

The Lapdogs give Bravo Crunchy Delights their official 16 paws up seal of approvalWe haven't handed one of those out in awhile, as we're trying to be a little more selective to show off some "above and beyond" products.  This doggy Mama will certainly be adding Crunchy Delights to our regular treat rotation.

Disclosure: Matrix Partners sent a bag of Bravo Crunchy Delights to Lapdog Creations, free of charge for review purposes. I was not compensated for this review and all opinions expressed are my own.

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Bartley's

Bartley's

www.BartleysForDogs.com

 1175198_123552181164405_1250024468_n

When I was approached by Bartley's about reviewing some of the products they sell and helping to spread the word about their online store, I jumped at the chance.  You see, Bartley's isn't just another online pet boutique selling all-natural, made in the USA treats and an array of toys and accessories... Bartley's is the online pet boutique where your purchase can really make a difference in the life of a shelter dog.  Each and every time you shop, you sponsor a rescue dog!  This is a cause near and dear to my heart, so you know how loudly I want to shout from the rooftops about Bartley's.  Here it goes...

codepage

At one time or another, I'm sure we've all shopped at an online retailer who promises our purchases are "giving back" or funding a great cause.  But, when have you actually seen what you've funded?  Every Bartley's order comes with a card showing a special code number.  Visit the "Enter Your Code" tab on the website, type in your number (ours was 110043) and viola... you'll see exactly who's life you helped to save! I think this is incredibly cool!  Not only do you have the satisfaction of supporting a rescue dog in need (all while making your dog incredibly happy with his or her new treats and toys), but you actually see that dog and read that dog's story.  One word; brilliant.

Dan Freeman is the man behind this brilliancy.  He founded Bartley's, which is named after his own rescue dog (yes, that's his adorable mug in the logo), in 2013.  Dan was volunteering for a couple of rescue groups 3 years ago when he and Bartley's paths crossed, and the rest was history.  After seeing the great need of funding for surgeries, vaccinations, spay/neuter and even food, Dan knew he had to help make a difference.  He also knew he only wanted to sell USA-made treats and high quality toys, proclaiming "If I won't give them to my dog, we won't sell them."  You can read more about the Bartley's story here.

Now, let's get to the fun part... the goodies the Lapdogs received for review!  And, yes, if you hadn't guessed already, the Lapdogs are giving Bartley's their official 16 paw up seal of approval!
tux_defdf473-a91e-48c3-9c1c-5a02a6bb5f4b_1024x1024

Tux from West Paw.  A recyclable, stuffable, bouncy chew toy that is Made in the USA and guaranteed tough!  You can stuff Tux with treats, peanut butter, cream cheese or just about anything your pup's heart desires.  Tux even floats and is dishwasher safe!
zukes_z_filet_edited-2_1024x1024
Zuke's Z-Filets.  The Lapdogs went nuts for these tasty beef treats (also available in chicken and venison).  They are grain-free, high protein and of course, Made in the USA.  I love that meat makes up 80% of the content, and I can easily break them into smaller pieces for training.

grainfreebeef_1024x1024

Soft and Chewy Buddy Biscuit Grain Free Treats.  These are no stranger to the Lapdogs, who drool over the cute little buddies.  Available in beef, peanut butter, chicken or cheddar, there's sure to be a flavor to please every pooch.  And, they're perfect for dogs with allergies or those who need softer treats.

IMG_20140502_180124_477-1Salsa from West Paw.  While the Lapdogs clearly enjoyed everything in their Bartley's goody box, I think this furry, squeaky, sasquatch-like creature was Sophie's absolute favorite!  He comes in 2 sizes, 19" regular or 13" baby, and each is available in 3 color choices - blue, green or yellow.  We received the very lovable regular yellow buddy.  And when I say he is Sophie's favorite, I'm not kidding.  Here's proof...

IMG_20140502_183429_546-1Not only does Sophie love Mr. Salsa (and yes, that's Tux in orange you see briefly), her siblings are equally fond of him.  I have a feeling I might be ordering a couple more of these funky guys very soon.

I hope you are as excited to support Bartley's as I am!  How would you like to win a gift certificate to get your started?

REVIEW: Old Mother Hubbard Soft Bakes

Old Mother Hubbard Soft Bakes

Where to Find: Chewy.com

OMHtreats_Tut_4614

OMHtreats_Zeus_4614It's Tasty Tuesday and we're happy to tell you all about another delish treat brought to us by the great folks over at Chewy.com!  This month we received Old Mother Hubbard Soft Bakes natural moist dog snacks for review.

We have been fans of the Old Mother Hubbard brand for years, but had not yet tried Soft Bakes.  Knowing the company's reputation for good, wholesome treats, I was really looking forward to having the Lapdogs try these.

Made in the USA with all natural ingredients, Soft Bakes contain no artificial flavors or preservatives, however they are not wheat free.  They are currently available in 3 flavors - Peanut Butter & Carob, Applesauce & Oatmeal and the flavor we received, Carrots & Pumpkin.

OMHtreats_TutSophie_4614Soft Bakes are part of Old Mother Hubbard's Gourmet Goodies collection - a line of unique, artisanal gourmet baked treats. As soon as I opened the bag, the smell of fresh baked pumpkin bread filled the room and the Lapdogs began lining up with paws waving and tails wagging. Judging by the drool left behind, I can only guess they taste as heavenly as they smell.

The soft treats are perfectly sized for the Lapdogs - not too big, not too small - and could easily be broken into smaller pieces for little dogs.  We're giving Soft Bakes the Official 16 Paws Up Seal of Approval - and I'm definitely adding these to our regular treat rotation!  We'll be trying the other flavors in the not-so-distant future.

OMHtreats_TutLola_4614bCROP
We highly recommend ordering Old Mother Hubbard Soft Bakes for your pack!  Remember, all orders over $49 placed at Chewy.com receive free 1-2 day shipping so order some for the Easter baskets, or whatever excuse you use to shop this Spring.  Your dogs will thank you!

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Cloud Star Dynamo Dog Functional Treats

Cloud Star Dynamo Dog Functional Treats

    Where to Find: Cloud Star

    Untitled

For over a decade, Cloud Star has been making all natural, wholesome products for dogs.  It all started in 1999 with their iconic Buddy Biscuits, which are quite popular in the Lapdog household.  The line has expanded over the years to include several types of treats, grooming products and "Wag More, Bark Less" merchandise (of which I own several pieces).  What I love most is that all of their dog treats continue to be Made in the USA with only first-quality ingredients - my #1 priority when looking for treats for my kids!

CloudStar_LolaTutSophie_81913I was very excited - probably more so than the Lapdogs themselves - when we got the chance to review Cloud Star's new Dynamo Dog Functional Treats!  Designed for daily support of important issues our dogs deal with, these aren't just any 'ole treats... they're little doses of health, in a delicious bite!

Dynamo Dog Functional Treats are currently available in 3 varieties:
    • Skin & Coat - with Salmon for daily support of healthy skin & shiny coat
    • Tummy - with Pumpkin & Ginger for daily support of digestive health
    • Hip & Joint - with Chicken or Bacon for daily support of healthy joint function
CloudStar_Tut_81913bIn addition to being Made in the USA, all Dynamo treats are grain free, gluten free, all natural, and free from artificial flavors and byproducts.  All flavors are available in 5 oz and 14 oz bags.

We received the Skin & Coat and Tummy formulas to try.

With senior dogs in our pack, digestive issues pop up more than some would like.  Having a Tummy formula treat available is wonderful... and having one with pumpkin and ginger in it (two things all of the Lapdogs love) is even better!  In addition to the pumpkin and ginger, Dynamo Tummy also contains probiotics and specially selected fruits, vegetables and herbs to ease digestion.

The Skin & Coat formula is an excellent treat for my two skin-issue prone hounds!  Made with salmon oil and Vitamin E, plus specially selected fruits, vegetables and herbs, these treats are designed to be extra tasty while providing the nutrients needed for a healthy coat.

    CloudStar_ZeusSophie_81913
It's safe to say that all of the Lapdogs loved both flavors!  Zeus and Sophie were especially interested in the Tummy variety -- which of course includes one of their most favorite foods ever, pumpkin!

We are giving Dynamo Dog Functional Treats our Official 16 Paws Up Seal of Approval!  Combined with the humans 2 thumbs up, these are treats we definitely want your pack to try as well!  You can get some of your very own through the Amazon link at the top of the page, or you can try to win 2 bags below!

CloudStar_4dogs_81913In addition to making awesome treats for our furry kids, Cloud Star is also committed to helping others!  As part of their commitment to giving back, the company pledges to donate to non-profit organizations benefiting animals, women, children, and the environment. Wonderful, tasty treats and a responsible company -- what more could you ask for?

    PawallaBox_Tut_613
Let us now introduce you to the granddaddy of all monthly delivery boxes... Pawalla!  Not just any 'ole monthly delivery, however.  A Pawalla box consists of all-natural or organic dog or cat goodies, hand-picked and delivered directly to your door step!  NO mystery treats or questionable products to be found here!

There are several types of Pawalla boxes available for both dogs and cats.  Dog boxes are available for puppy below 25lbs, puppy over 25lbs, adult below 25lbs, adult over 25lbs, senior under 25lbs and senior over 25lbs.  Cat boxes are available for kitten, adult cat and senior cat.  Talk about customization to your pet's specific size and needs - wow!  On top of that, all of these different size boxes are available in 2 sizes - mini and deluxe

    • Deluxe Boxes are $30/mo, or $28/mo with a 6 month subscription.  Each features 7-9 premium full size products consisting of wet food, treats, supplements or vitamins, essentials and a toy
PawallaBox_LolaSophieTut_613Again - talk about customization and getting exactly what you want!  If you don't feed your pet wet food, you simply choose the Mini box.  If you do and would like to have it included, opt for the Deluxe box, which is what we received... and boy were we all impressed - humans and canines!  The pawesome box included:

    • A full size can of Nutrisca Turkey and Chickpea Stew
      • We had just discovered this amazing grain free canned food just before we received our box and were pleasantly surprised to find a new flavor inside.
    • A full size can of Evanger's Organics Cooked Chicken
      • Another high-end canned food that the Lapdogs can't get enough of!
    • Wigzi Stuff n' Crunch Peanut Butter Flavor cookies
      • Trust us when we say these can easily be mistaken for human peanut butter cookies - size, texture, smell and appearance wise!  Be careful what you leave unmarked on your counter...
    • Emerald Canine Duck Treats with Blueberry
      • O. M. G. If you haven't seen these yet, go look for them!  Is there anything cuter than little duck shaped treats?
    • YoPup Happy Belly treats
      • PawallaBox_SophieZeus_613
      • These are made locally in NH, yet we hadn't seen them before (although we have been fans of the Yoghund frozen yogurt for years).  These biscuits contain healthy probiotics and are drizzled with pink yogurt - a win/win!  We will definitely be adding these to our regular treat supply.
    • PushClean Pet Towelettes
      • Hypoallergenic, all-natural towelettes made out of 100% bamboo, travel friendly and easy to use - a new found love!
    • American Dog Toys Glow Balls
      • These soft, durable balls are easy to clean and they even float in the water.  We received a bright lime green one that will be easy to spot as well.
    PawallaBox_Tut_613b
If you haven't already guessed, we are huge fans of Pawalla and the Lapdogs are giving them their Official 16 Paws Up Seal of Approval!  The humans are even adding in 4 thumbs up!  We've tried other monthly delivery boxes in the past, but nothing has even come close to what we received from Pawalla.  We have (or will soon) used everything in this box!  As a concerned dog Mama, I love knowing that everything coming each month has been hand-picked by other concerned pet parents and that everything is all natural or organic.

    PawallaBox_Lola_613
In addition to the pawesome boxes, there is also a Pawalla Store where you can shop for specific all natural or organic boutique pet brands.  Like something you've received in your Pawalla box, but can't find it locally?  Check the Pawalla Store!  This is a great convenience for someone like me who likes everything in my monthly box... I can log on and buy more all in one place, plus be introduced to some other fantastic brands!

Check out Pawalla today -- you, your dog and/or your cat will not be disappointed!

    Orijen_Tut_7213b

When our friends over at Chewy.com asked us if we would review Orijen Freeze-Dried Dog Treats, the Lapdogs howled in song at the chance to do so!  They have had various freeze-dried beef and chicken treats in the past and always go nuts for more, so I was sure these would be a hit!

Orijen Freeze-Dried Dog Treats are made in Canada with 100% meat, poultry or fish, using special flash-freezing techniques without cooking or adding preservatives.  This process allows all of the nutrients and amazing flavors of the fresh ingredients to be fully retained in a bite-size treat that dogs are sure to love!  These ingredients are all delivered fresh or raw to Orijen, who use only free-range protein sources perfectly matched to the carnivorous needs of our dogs.

Orijen_Tut_7213dCropOrijen Freeze-Dried Dog Treats are available in several different flavors, including Black Angus Beef, Free Range Bison, Brome Lake Duck, Tundra, Ranch Raised Lamb, Alberta Wild Boar, Regional Red and Original.

We opted to try the Tundra variety.  These grain-free treats are made with 6 simple, wholesome ingredients: boneless venison, elk liver, boneless elk, venison liver, boneless quail and steelhead trout. Yes, I said venison, elk, quail and steelhead trout - you can't ask for better game protein sources!  These ingredients are designed to not only provide excellent nutrition for our 4-legged friends, but a delish taste as well.

Orijen_Zeus_7213Additionally, Orijen Tundra Treats have only 5 calories, making them perfect for between meal snacking or training.  With 2 senior dogs and 2 allergy prone dogs in the Lapdog household, these freeze-dried treats really are perfect for our needs!  In fact, the Lapdogs have given Orijen Freeze-Dried Tundra Dog Treats their Official 16 Paws Up Seal of Approval!  They have been begging for more ever since our review taste-test!
