I'm going to start this review right off by professing my love for Lovely Knits for Little Girls: 20 Just-Right Patterns, Just for Little Girls.  This is one of those knitting books... the ones you find yourself leaving out on the coffee table just to flip through with your morning coffee or smile as your non-knitting visitors pick it up to peak at.  Lovely Knits for Little Girls charms with it's printed case hardcover, matte pages and elegance... and satisfies with it's pretty, girly patterns.

Lovely Knits for Little Girls solves the problem many knitters face... what to knit for the "in be-tweens."  Baby and adult pattern books overflow our local yarn store shelves, yet it's hard to find cute, modern patterns for little girls.  In Lovely Knits for Little Girls, the majority of the patterns have been written in 3 sizes (3 - 4 years, 5 - 6 years, 7 - 8 years), making it easy to please both toddlers and tweens alike!  I'd bet money that you'll even please the big girls.  I'm not ashamed to admit that there are several I'd love to see altered for my size!

Designer Vibe Ulrik Sondergaard has created a stylish, little girl wardrobe that most of us big girls envy and presents the patterns in 5 groupings: Sweaters, Cardigans, Dresses and Tops, Skirts and Wraps and Charming Accessories.  The photography is nothing short of beautiful, as are the tiny models rocking the gorgeous knits.  I appreciate that they were photographed in an elegant, timeless manner, unlike many kid knits (i.e. you won't find any rainbow bright-like patterns and photos here).  Instructions are clear and easy to read, as are the accompanying charts.  The yarns used throughout are yarns you want to knit with - think Rowan, Louisa Harding and Debbie Bliss.

Some of my personal favorites are:
  • Matilda Round-neck Textured Sweater.  A beautiful textured sweater that I seriously want to add to my wardrobe
  • Rosita Warm-wrap Cardigan.  The pattern featured on the cover... need I say more?
  • Skye Big Wool Wrap or Mini Skirt.  What girl doesn't love a wardrobe piece that multi-tasks?  This two-in-one piece works as a cowl type wrap, as well as an adorable skirt that looks fabulous over leggings.
  • Olivia Mohair Scarf with Bobbles.  With some fairly easy tweaking, this pretty year-round scarf knit in Rowan Kidsilk Haze can surely be converted to adult size with ease.
Pick up a copy of Lovely Knits for Little Girls to add to your knitting book shelf today.  It's a heirloom book that you'll be sure to hand down to the next generation of knitters... after you've well-used it, of course!
