Loyal Tells the Tales of 38 Hero Dogs + GIVEAWAY #TLCBookTours #Loyal

If I was asked to describe my dogs in one word, I would say Loyal.

3 rescued dogs with Loyal book

I would also use loving, faithful, protective, smart, and high-spirited (that last one being all about Penny right now), but above anything else, my dogs are loyal.

Disclosure: National Geographic and TLC Book Tours sent a copy of Loyal to Lapdog Creations, free of charge, for review purposes. We only share information that we feel is relevant to our readers, and all opinions expressed are our own. TLC Book Tours is responsible for the giveaway prize. This post contains affiliate links. So, when I was asked to be a stop on the book tour for Loyal: 38 Inspiring Tales of Bravery, Heroism, and the Devotion of Dogs, I jumped at the chance!

About Loyal
• Hardcover: 160 pages
• Publisher: National Geographic (March 7, 2017)

This special collection of dog stories and photographs features four-legged heroes who have worked side by side with soldiers, searched the wreckage of natural and man-made disasters, changed families' lives through emotional support, and administered aid around the world and at home in the United States. Heartwarming photographs and touching anecdotes bring to life thirty-eight caring canines who have served the people who mean the most to them, from a German Shepherd who leads a blind man on his marathon training mission to a belly rub-loving Sheltie who supports at-risk youth in the classroom. For anyone who has experienced the extraordinary affection of a dog, Loyal is a lasting celebration of the joys of canine companionship.

They had me at "dog stories," but really got my interest when I learned that the stories were all about four-legged heroes. I couldn't wait to open the pages and start reading these dogs' tales.

Loyal is presented in a format that is easy to read, and allows you to choose whether you want to read each dog's story in the order presented or to just flip open to any one that grabs your eye.

Speaking of grabbing your eye, beware that each story is accompanied by beautiful full-color photographs that truly bring them to life. Those eyes will be staring right at you!

The tales cover a wide range of heroes, including
  • Beethoven, a deaf, American Bulldog Shar-pei mix from Georgia who visits mental health inmates at the Muscogee County Jail
  • Eudy & Tule, a pair of Maremma Sheepdogs who protect penguins in Victoria, Australia
  • JJ, a Terrier mix who keeps a close watch over her girl in North Carolina - JJ was the first dog trained to detect the onset of a mastocytosis attack
  • Atlas, a French Mastiff who assists children with balance and walking at Children's Therapy Center in Sterling, Virginia
  • Glory, a Californian Bloodhound who specializes in locating missing pets and people
  • Judge, a Czech Shepherd who served as a Police K9 in New Jersey for seven years

Those are just a tiny sampling of the 38 stories that fill the pages of Loyal. Stories that will make you smile, laugh, gasp, and cry. Stories of 38 heroes that you will come to know and love.

Order a copy of Loyal today - or better yet, order two! Loyal makes a great gift for your dog loving friends.

I would like to win a copy of "Loyal" because I love reading uplifting stories about animals and people taking proper care of one another. There is so much sad stuff in the news these days, it is important to make time for the happy stories too :)

We have three dogs in our house and although I love them to bits they are more needy than helpful. :) I think our entire family would enjoy this book though.

Thanks for being a part of the tour!

We think your Mom should read you one of those stories each night at bedtime. Our Mom has already seen the book, so don't include us in the contest.

It really is amazing the lengths that dogs will go to help us out. Our relationship with dogs today is so much different than 40 years ago.
